  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So recently some of my friends and I were talking about The Five Love Languages and I thought why not spread the love a little and ask y'all what you think of it. Has anyone taken the quiz? It can be found at http://www.5lovelanguages.com/profile/ . What were your results, if you want to share? Have your results changed over time? Do you think your results are a good fit? How do you usually show others (loved ones, friends, significant other, etc) that you care or do you show and experience love the same way?

Cool thread, I like this.

I remember taking this back in high school during a youth group thing, but that was 10+ years ago so I can't remember my results for comparative reasons. The ones I got this time around are:

11-Words of Affirmation
7-Quality Time
4-Acts of Service
4-Physical Touch
4-Receiving Gifts

That definitely seems right to me, words of affirmation are what strike a chord with me the easiest.

I think mine was quality time.
I did read the book and he did write one for singles, although the original one was for married couples.
I will do it again and come back to you but dont think it has changed. My second probably is words of affirmation but Lord knows I dont get any from my mum.

That is tough. It is really hard to look to your parent for some encouragement and affirmation and never receive any. I don't think enough people realize just how valuable a few loving and encouraging words are.

I think all a parent has to say is like our Heavenly Father said to Jesus on the day he was baptized in front of everyone so they could hear 'This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased'.

Did you do the one for yourself or "your child", because the one I did said nothing about parenting.

I heard Gary Chapman speak at my church on this topic early in my marriage. I think it made an impression on me that forever improved that marriage because I was able to see that my husband's love language was different than mine and to try to speak to him in his. I just took the test again and suspect that my love language hasn't really changed much over time. I am curious to see if I took the test for "marrieds" if it would be very different. I might try that later. Anyway, mine as a "single" is:

11 Acts of Service
8 Quality Time
5 Physical Touch
3 Receiving Gifts
3 Words of Affirmation

Okay...I just did it from the reference of my marriage. I guess I like to touch and be touched by the man I love. Maybe that is why widowhood is so hard.

I've done this before. I know #1 for me was Words of Affirmation, which would be accurate still today. It's definitely something that really boosts my morale.

Anyway, I didn't want to fill out the personal info, so my guess for the others would be:

2) Acts of Service
3) Quality Time
4) Physical Touch
5) Receiving Gifts

This test already made me depressed. I like the age range I fall into better when I shop at bodybuilding.com rather than the age group I fall into on this one.

Bodybuilding store my age group is - 20-39

This one - 35-44 :| :sad::sadd:

the only personal info mandatory is your email, your age group, and your "status"...you don't have to give your name and most of us have a "dummy" email that we give when we don't want to use our real one

Well I think this test like any is to be taken with a grain of salt.

They only give two options per question and only ask "which matters most" and offer no "I see them both as equally important" option.

I am a physical touching person all the time and yet.... on mine it only shows up as mid importance.

By this tests logic, I hate dogs..... while in truth I love dogs and cats but because cats win out just by a hair......... Id choose cats so by test logic... I choose cats, I hate dogs.

This is a weighting of a lot of similar questions to figure out an order of importance.....but with all "tests' that only take a few minutes, yes, they are subject to a number of variables that may not be entirely accurate. What my test difference shows is that I don't like to be touched in general but I do need to be touched in a romantic relationship. I used to love to sit and watch tv with our knees touching, holding hands (often in the car), and sleeping with our feet touching if it was too hot to touch more than that. But outside of that, I am not fond of being touched by others.
