  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just mentioned this in another thread so I figured I'd post about it. There's a series of books by Gary Chapman called "The Five Love Languages" (one for spouses, one for kids, etc.). 'Love languages' are ways that we best receive love.

The five are:
Quality Time
Acts of Service
Receiving Gifts
Words of Affirmation
Physical Touch

So, if you 'love language' is quality time, you feel most loved when your partner spends time with you, etc.

I think it's not only important to understand these things for romantic relationships, but also for friendships, parenting, etc. We tend to give love in the way that we best receive it, instead of in the way that the other person best receives it. So if you're a parent and know that your child's love language is "physical touch", it will be more meaningful to them to give them a hug then to compliment/encourage them verbally.

Anyway, here's a quiz that can help you find yours:
http://www.youthnetsouthampton.org.uk/breakout/lovelanguages.php

My results were:

The Five Love Languages
Your primary love language is probably
Physical Touch
with a secondary love language being
Quality Time.

Complete set of results

Physical Touch: 12
Quality Time: 9
Words of Affirmation: 5
Acts of Service: 4
Receiving Gifts: 0

What are yours? :)

I didnt like that questionaire much. I thought it was way too obvious which side a person was choosing, and some of the wording made it hard to imagine that thing being in practice. I also skipped some questions because the two sides were both worth the same. As can tell, three of my areas are almost equal, which i believe lines up with how i feel, because i think a lot of different kinds of things are important in love expression.

though I fail to see how this quiz doesn't lead one to chose certain results to not be selfish (Not that I tampered with mine....) nevertheless... and I don't like the compairing statements method... I'd prefer a scale (1 to 5 - strongly disagree to strongly agree) or another more randomized method..... nevertheless I took it......

therefore, here are my results.......

our primary love language is probably
Quality Time
with a secondary love language being
Words of Affirmation.

Complete set of results

Quality Time: 10
Words of Affirmation: 8
Acts of Service: 6
Physical Touch: 3

Hmm, interesting concept, but I think that the test taken when single and married might give different results. Right now, it's fair to say that I feel like I couldn't get enough physical touch.

I think after a while words of affirmation would be just as important.

i agree with this. and the results showing that quality time and physical touch is pretty darn close resembles me pretty accurately

i was shocked tho by the results on one matter. i thought i was answering more physical touch, but since the results came out pretty accurately, i'm not complaining any.

It's reassuring to see the guys with a primary language of Quality Time. I am very much a quality time person, but I always assumed that was more of a "girl thing."
for me, quality time and the physical touch are the two best things about relationships. two things that are equally worth waiting/being patient for. as toney the tiger said, "THEY ARE GRRRRRREAT!"

Great video, PureSolace. Haha.

My highest one is physical touch and lowest is receiving gifts.
Yea, well apparently not everyone on CF thought it was great... it was flagged and "Holy Roller Mod Bombed" quickly...

Another win for the brownshirts!
