  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My mom was a bacteriologist. So she did teach us a little bit about that. I did a study once on cause of death for the hunter gather pre civilization people. Most of them were murdered. A lot of times the remains were being investigated as a murder until they found out the skeleton was 20,000 years old and the cause of death was a stone age arrow head.

My point is the remains did not really decay the way it would if people were older and died from disease. In fact they talk about the remains of Buddhist monks that had so little bacteria in them so that there is no decay at all of their remains. Look at the remains of the Egyptian mummys. They somehow preserved them so that after thousands of years there is still no decay.

So I am going to argue that the purpose of bacteria is NOT to cause a disease. The purpose to to recycle the matter. To break it down so another organism can use the elements. That is why we need bacterial in our compost. To break down the elements to a form that other plants can use them. John Wesley had a discussion about what happens at the resurrection when the body is said to receive eternal life. "It is sown in decay; it is raised in immortality."

If you are referring to the virus and not bacteria then we are still trying to figure out how to deal with that issue.

You are side stepping the issue. Are we leaving Germ Theory on the drawing board because we do not infect millions of people with Ebola?

So you were talking about a virus. Ebola is rare. When you talk about germs usually that is a reference to bacteria because that is more common. No FDA-approved vaccine or medicine (e.g., antiviral drug) is available for Ebola. So is that your point that science does not have any sort of an effective treatment plan for Ebola? Other then bed rest and fluids.

persuade them to agree with your position?
I do not seem to be persuading anybody of anything. Christians believe it is our job to sound the alarm. We are not responsible for the choice or the decisions that people make. As long as we deliver the message that God gives us to deliver to them.

If you had information that could save or prolong someone's life and improve their health, should you not share that information with them? Yet you can not determine what they do with it. They have to make that choice themselves. You have done your part when you give them the information they need to make their decision.

That's because you are wrong.

Is it the job of christians to spread misinformation about what science is?

What alarm are you sounding exactly?

Do you believe you are persuading people to listen to your alarm?

I think that is true with EMT bombs. We have the technology so the police could shut down the ignition in a car if they want to stop it. Yet we are not developing that technology. My guess would be they do not want people to use that as a weapon. I think we will develop EMT technology during the 1,000 year reign of Christ as it will make most all advanced weapons of war ineffective. Although my son who has a degree in electronic engineering tells me it is very easy to shield against an EMT attack. I predict that at some point in time cars will have to have this shield as standard equipment.

I do not know what the situation is for funding and research on Ebola. I have a friend who did some research using march of dimes funding. He said there is money available you just have to apply for it. He was having some problems with that and I was able to help him get that straightened out.

That has nothing to do with germ theory.

Is it the job of science to spread misinformation about what Christianity is all about? I mean the drawing board type of science. Not the people out there in the real world that are actually getting the job done. They do not have the time nor the inclination to spread misinformation.

There is no such thing as "drawing board type of science". You are making stuff up. Is that what christians are called to do, make stuff up?

So are you suggesting that Darwin's theory does not have any application in the real world?
Talk about So's law.

No, I am not suggesting Darwin's theory has no real world applications. It has many.
