I have hesitated to post this concept because of the length of it. I feel the need to quote the scripure proof for each point made so please bear with me.
Many times I've been asked what difference it makes whether the Trinity is a true doctrine or not. The answer lies in the meaning of Calvary. Why did Christ die?
2Corinthians 5:
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
(We were His enemy yet now reconciled by means of the death of Christ. The death of Christ changes us not God.
Colossians 1:
21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:)
Back to 2Corinthians 5:
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
Verse 19 is very significant, the fact God does not impute sin to the sinner. (We are the ones who impute sin to ourselves and others).
Psalms 130:
3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
Romans 3:
25 whom God did set forth a mercy seat, through the faith in his blood, for the shewing forth of His righteousness, because of the passing over of the bygone sins in the forbearance of God-- YLT
When does God forgive us? When we repent? When we are converted?
Acts 3:
19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
If a person has repented and been converted they are forgiven by God. So, from where do our sins need to be blotted out?
Hebrews 10:
1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. (from the believer)
5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
Remember Colossians 1 quoted above? We were enemies in our minds but by the death of His body we are reconciled. Understanding God so loved us that He allowed His Son to die reconciles us to Him. We are no longer His enemy.
I have two daughters ages 9 and 11. If someone were to kill one of them you would see instant retaliation from me. But what if one child killed the other? You would see a completely different response from me. Why? Because I love them both the same. That is what happened at Calvary. We put the Son of God to death and there was no retaliation from the Father. In fact, on the third day He raised His Son from the dead declaring Him to actually be the Son of God. (Romans 1:4)
The event of Calvary allowed the Father to say in action, “I love you as much as I love Christ”. It is the passion of the Father's love that set's us free from sin. If you see Christ as anything other than the Son of God you are still in your sin. You may believe God has forgiven you but has the sin been taken away from you unto the point of perfection, as stated in Hebrews 10:1?
John 17:
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
