  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I would agree, but I am thankful that they aren't going so far as to vote to not send any benevolence money at all. At least they're going to ear-mark it for things like world hunger relief and such, so that help can still go somewhere. Unfortunately, council seems to be in a position of needing to do this or risk losing even more members/families, and in a congregation our size, that could lead to us closing our doors altogether. Given the realities of what's happening, I'd much rather they earmark their money than lose enough members to close altogether.

I have effectively left my church after this decision. My church is exploring it's options other than ELCA and has flatly refused to call openly homosexual clergy, which I find abhorrent. I'm looking for a church now that is strongly set in the ELCA and is willing to call all people to whom God has graced with the gift of preaching.

I wish you the best in your search for a new church, and hope you can find a welcoming congregation within the ELCA. I don't know where you live or what options are available to you outside the congregation you just left, but if you're looking for an ELCA congregation that welcomes LGBTQ persons, you can search for a Reconciling in Christ congregation here:

LC/NA : Reconciling in Christ Participants Search

Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries also lists some Mission Partner congregations and ministries. It's a shorter list, but there might be something in your area:

Our Mission Partners - Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries

That should get you started; I hope your search is fruitful! It's truly a shame that your previous congregation not only refuses to affirm LGBTQ persons in the life of the congregation, but also didn't seem to be a welcoming place for anyone with questions.
