  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Fin12, your idea in this thread, while nice, is terrible.

"If you could have the dream of a perfect life instead of this real one, would you?"

"No. That's pointless."

"But what if you're already dreaming!?"

"My life is great, but definitely not perfect. In fact it actually kinda sucks."

And what does predestination have to do with anything?

I'll clarify...

1. The experiences are identical to "real ones their is no way of telling the world you are in is fake.

2. You will spend you lifetime in that machine although once you're in you won't realise that your in a machine.

3. It's programming experiences that you want not ALL experiences it doesn't make you god. It gives a perfect human life, examole, successs in hobbies, success in love life, success in work without too much effort, perfect old age, perfect childhood.

4. It's a hypothetical question, questioning the meaning behind "reality". It doesn't matter whether we currently have the technical know how or not.

Any more responces?

Depends, how does death work...?

MU AH AH AH AH!!

Now here's the killer that will leave you all in insanity.

Prove to me your life isn't pre-destined and you're not in the machine right now.

Welcome to the theory of "relative truth".

I'd would have to have been whack to give myself the life I currently have. There are a number of things I would have done differently.

And what does predestination have to do with anything?

1. Read the thread again, you would be oblivious, their would be no way of telling the "perfect" world wasn't the "real" world.

2. No life even in another universe would be 100% happy. We judge what makes us happy and sad by what we have around us. If you grew up in a utopia world then having no muffins for your picnic would be tragedy on epic proportions. The real idea behind this thread is whether or not the world we live in is real.

3. Since the machine has a programmed life, then your life in the tank is pre-destined.

This is basically extremist scepticism in brief. We cannot be certain of any truths around us, becuase we cannot be certain that we're not simply being tricked by example: a very cruel hypnotist.

If there was a machine, that could make you feel, experience, see anything. And you could programme the perfect life for yourself, whether that is accomplishment/pleasure etc.

You would have no idea that the life you were in wasn't real.

Would you plug yourself in?
Honestly, yes. I'm currently quite unsatisfied with my life, and I'm too lazy/stubborn to fix the things that are making me unsatisfied, so that would be very enticing to me.

If I could be plugged in for only the remainder of this year, then, yeah, I would do it.
wouldn't that cause some kind of culture shock thing?

for example, remainder of year, you're in your utopia... you don't know it's not real... then you're wrenched back into the life that you were trying to escape in the first place.... that might be quite psycologically and/or emotionally damaging, to say the least.

Its a good point, and I was really saying that out of frustration of my situation. Really I think God has been using this time to whip me into shape, so to speak. So no I really dont think I would plug myself in.
Its fun to think about, but I doubt it would ever work though.

people (particularly most christians) are already plugged, into the machine of misery; and
either don't know it, or don't believe they can unplug themselves.

And more like how GOD  invites us, enjoy... living abundantly... :)

I suppose if I could somehow choose to enter this machine at the start of my life, I would do it. As it is, I wouldn't want to erase who I am now to relive a perfect life. After all, I would be more or less killing myself to give another person a perfect life.

There is no proof as far as I can see that this world isn't a pre-programmed machine and our 'real' selves are in another, 'higher' world. All we can do about it is shrug our shoulders and get on with it.

With that attitude, no wonder your emotion shows as "sad".

Might I suggest you *change* :) into your 'real, higher' self  ; and make a world of difference ;)
