If Jesus were here today I think He would not play this game. He would be active in saving souls and healing, in the real world, for sure. There are passages in the Bible that equate "thinking" to actually "doing." So, while the acts in the game are not real , they ARE in the mind, and there is so much violence in the game that I am sure he would be against it. I asked myself this very same question and my conscience made me quit playing, even though I liked the game at first.

The same arguement could be applied to TV, Movies, etc., and since we have been given free will, we can chose to view these things or not, and we will answer to Him if we make wrong choices.

I remember being influenced by some movies I have seen, and I don't want killing to be part of that influence.

And if it doesn't influence others?

NR90 - I know you want to play Skyrim, and so do I. In my case when I played the game I had the same question that you are asking. If my conscience objects to the violence, is that a message from the Holy Spirit? Others may not even think about it and therefore it does not bother them. Could it be that for me it isn't ok, but for them it is?

The only way to properly address this issue is through prayer.

Amber - Thanks for your input. Of course Jesus has a sense of humor, but for some of us this is a serious thing and I hope you can appreciate that.

NR90 - For you and I, we should pray for guidance.

I have prayed. Didn't help so I went and got the game anyway. I'm not really living in faith as much as I use to so that's probably why it didn't help.

hmm NR90 your last statement concerned me. But even further it concerned me no one else posted after it to talk about it.

There is something very wrong about the statement "I'm not really living in faith as much as I used to"

Scripture tells us the righteous shall live by faith. One cannot claim to be a christian and not walk in faith. Have you ever read through 1 John before? It lays out the evidence one has believed unto salvation and had "repentance" a change of mind about Jesus and your sin.

I'm not a christian legalist by any means but at the same time we need to be serious on this issue. The struggle many professing christians have is that they are merely playing Religion and not actually in the faith at all. Scripture also tells us to see if we are in the faith or not.

2 Corinthians 13:5 - Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

The question isn't do you go to church, pay your tithes, try to pray every night before you sleep. The question is in your heart do you want God? The God of the bible. Do you love Jesus? Do you desire to be holy and more like him? Do you seek to obey him yet struggle with it at times? Is there anything alive in you when you read the scriptures and read about Christ and the love of God? Or is it just some book that you have little or no desire to open up and is collecting dust on a shelf?

Jesus says those who love him will obey him but not out of religious duty, but out of a new heart of flesh.

Ezekiel 36:26 - And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

When one has believed he becomes born again and receives this new heart and the Holy spirit which desires to obey and honor Jesus Christ. Not perfectly! But when you peel all the layers down God means more than the world. So many are lost in religion and tradition where they are merely trying to fulfill their religious duty to go to heaven in a world where they have no enjoyment of God and no desire to walk with him. If this is you go talk to someone or a pastor or someone. Even me and I'll try to help. I've been there before, lost in sin with no desire for God and yet I was a christian? I was awakened thank God. I'll close with this quote.

What does you life revolve around? Remember this as you consider your
answer. We have made our selves the center of everything in this world
but God will be at the center of everything in Heaven. The decision
you made or will make either for or against Jesus Christ should be
measured by what your life revolves around right now. If its not God
you won't like Heaven and you probably won't get to go there.

This is my response from the other post questioning if your religious beliefs affect how you play a game:

A game is harmless and involves no negative forces.

I play World of Warcraft, a good number of handful of Christians I know play Warlocks (demon summoners) and Shadow Priests (a priest which uses dark magic, diseases, and the like).

Unless you are easily influenced like say, lighting someone on fire to pretend it's a fireball, then you are fine.
