Reborn
As Perri lie mourning over the body of his beloved mother, he felt his world crumble around him. His father, his mother . . . they were all he had, the only only ones he trusted most. He felt so terribly alone. How could he get through this? How could her survive without these people to love him? Alone. He was very alone.
It seemed a very long time before he raised himself off his mother. He wiped the tears from his eyes and looked down into her face. Peaceful. He brushed a strand of hair from her face and let the tears well up in his eyes as he remembered their days together. The days when he would return home with his father to find her waiting for them on the doorstep and the scent of a delicious ham filling his nostrils. The days when they would go for a hike in the forest and race each other home, laughing as they went. The days that would never be again.
He wiped his eyes again and sighed. His father would be sad to see him grieve. He remembered his words. "When you are a fighter, you must be strong. When you lose a battle, you must move on." But how? How could he move on? What could he do?
"Gorhoughust! Gorhoughust!"
He gently lifted his mothers hands and folded them upon her chest and covered her with a blanket. He stood up and gazed at her one last time.
"I will avenge you, mother, father." he whispered, and slowly headed out of the room.
