Just returned from a spiritual formation retreat weekend for the kids (6-8th grade), and I need to get busy on my school work, but my mind is bleh.. XD The Lord is great, and seeing it through children learning and growing is just...awesome.

Organist, pianist, choir director, composer.
I love what I do!!!

Can you play "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing"? I have seen white organists, pianists, choirs, and congregations butcher it. The one time I didn't it was Unitarians. When I do the bulletin on my lay speaking days I try to include it at least once a year. We're doing it next Sunday. Our (African-American) choir director assured me our (multiracial, multicultural) church can do it right.

When I play it, African Americans love it, and sing it with gusto. White people sing it with gusto as well, but always comment that I play it entirely too slowly.

That means I'm doing it right! ;)

(and to play it really right, you gotta use ALL 13 fingers!!!!)

That takes me back to the afrocentric multicultural school I went to as a kid. We'd always sing that song and do the "harambe" thing.

Agreed Ishida.
I just love the energy and commitment of our youth!

Good for you for your witness with them!
