I am using this time of solitude God has given me to review scripture and recharge my faith. I am making sure there is oil in my lamp.

What scripture do you use to fill your lamps?

What scripture do I use to put more oil in my lamp? Well, lets's see.

I don't have any one particular scripture, but the Psalms have always been good, particularly when I'm feeling down or having troubles. Another of my favourites would have to be Isaiah, from chapters 40 through to 66.
However, John chapters 14 through 16 would have to be my favourite. Jesus own words help me focus on what's important to Him. I don't know why, but what's written in these chapters puts me in touch with Him like nothing else can, except for prayer of course. And that's another way I can fill my lamp with oil, asking Holy spirit to come and fill me.

I found a verse in the Good Book that says if you call somebody a fool you go to hell. I keep wondering how many times in my life I've said that about somebody.

Matthew5:22
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

I don't understand. I think being called a fool is less offensive than some of the other words out there.

This is what Strong's says about the word Migs:

Matt 5:22 The word is moros

Moros primarily denotes -
1. "dull, sluggish" (from a root muh, "to be silly');hence, "stupid, foolish"
2. It is used 2a) of persons 2a1) Mt 5:22 "Thou fool", here the word means morally worthless, a scoundrel, a more serious reproach than "Raca", the latter scorns a man's mind and calls him stupid; moros scorns his heart and character, hence the Lords' more severe condemnation.

Seems like the word in Matt 5:22 should be the greek word moros instead of raca. So the meaning is a lot deeper and more severe than just calling someone stupid.

I was watching a local preacher on TV one time who made an observation about this verse:

John 8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

This preacher said he believed that the woman didn't have any clothes on when they brought her to the Good Shepherd.

I thought about this. They caught her "in the very act." Well, it does imply they might have dragged her right out of bed without giving her a chance to dress.

The TV preacher didn't say any more about it but I read further and it may confirm that the woman was indeed n*ked:

5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

6 . . . But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

The Good Shepherd stooped down and wrote on the ground and acted like he didn't hear them. He did this twice. Was He embarrassed? He was probably trying not to look.

I've never heard any explanation why the Good Shepherd wrote on the ground. So I figure it must be he was embarrassed. What do y'all think? Not that it's really important. But it must have been an embarrassing moment for everyone.

(Lev 18:7) 'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, that is, the nakedness of your mother. She is your mother; you are not to uncover her nakedness.

(Lev 18:8) 'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's wife; it is your father's nakedness.

(Lev 18:9) 'The nakedness of your sister, either your father's daughter or your mother's daughter, whether born at home or born outside, their nakedness you shall not uncover.

(Lev 18:10) 'The nakedness of your son's daughter or your daughter's daughter, their nakedness you shall not uncover; for their nakedness is yours.

(Lev 18:15) 'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law; she is your son's wife, you shall not uncover her nakedness.

(Lev 18:16) 'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother's wife; it is your brother's nakedness.

(Lev 18:17) 'You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and of her daughter, nor shall you take her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; they are blood relatives. It is lewdness.

(Lev 18:18) 'You shall not marry a woman in addition to her sister as a rival while she is alive, to uncover her nakedness.

(Lev 18:19) 'Also you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness during her menstrual impurity.



As you can see from the above verses Migs, uncovering someone's nakedness was a big no no in the Torah. Those in Jesus' time still lived under the Torah (Law) and I don't think would have brought her to Him naked, as that would have broken the law. She would have been exposed to more than just those who found her. They would have made her wrap herself first, or, she had sex with clothes on... remember that women wore long dresses or robes and I don't know if they wore undies of any sort.
I've heard that Jesus knew their sin and started writing some of their sins in the dirt. Dunno!

I think it's interesting about some of the verses in the Good Book. There's one that sounds really disrespectful. I think it was the Pharisees who were bullying the blind man that the Good Shepherd made see again.

John 9:28-29*(King James Version)

28Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.

29We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

This version sounds even more disrespectful:

John 9:28-29*(New International Version)

28Then they hurled insults at him and said, “You are this fellow's disciple! We are disciples of Moses!

29We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don't even know where he comes from.”

Sheesh! How dare they call Our Good Lord and Savior "this fellow"!!!

I was reading the Book of Acts last night and I have to tell you, I really admire the way Peter socked it to those stooges who were responsible for killing our Lord and Savior. And the way he put it to that silly magician Simon when he asked to "buy" their technique to perform miracles. Peter told him that he and his money could go to hell. Acts 8:20.

Yea Peter could often be found putting his foot in his mouth, but in the end he was one of the ones who would turn the world upside down. Kind of gives me a little hope for myself. Not that I am like him or anything but God can still use those of us who have a lot to say sometimes. Isn't that encouraging?
