Understand that in my nature I struggle to turn the other cheek. Recently when a guy was being rude to me I told him if it wasn't for Jesus id floor him. That's why in the passage your quoting from Romans LOOK they execute wrath on him that does evil and killing is evil which is why in revelation it says what happens to those who think its OK to kill with the sword. Christians are meant to save life not end it.

As a child of God our kingdom is not of this world so why you going to fight in a world war when your not meant to part of this world defending a worldly kingdom ? Is it because your confused thinking your French or English or German instead of thinking your a Son Of God ? Jesus did not tell soldiers (nor did Yochanan the immerser) to necessarily quit being a soldier... just to no longer do the evil that soldiers routinely did daily. (including killing someone, or robbing them)

Not doing the evil that soldiers routinely did daily pretty much canceled out the whole "being a soldier" thing. Not as much for the temple guards that Yochanan spoke to, but certainly for Roman soldiers. The basic job of the Roman soldiers occupying Palestine was to intimidate the populace through force and violence, and they got paid by extorting money from them. Becoming a Christian meant they had to stop being active Roman soldiers.

Of course today most people in the military do not actually use weapons--most people in uniform operate in support roles. But we still have to look at how the military we support is being used by the government. Are we being used for evil or for good?

I come from a family that has been solidly military for over a century, since the Spanish-American War. All the men have gone into the military and all the women married soldiers. I spent 26 years in the Air Force myself.

Although I actually took many lessons about how to be a better Christian and a better member of the Body of Christ from my military experience (and I can understand why it was the centurion who had faith that astounded Jesus), I have to look at how the US military is being used and point out that it's being used for evil, and has been for the last 50 years.

Nor do I see it changing, especially since over the last 40 years the military has been used in subservience to Saudi Arabia. It appears our future role will continue to be primarily Saudi Arabia's bodyguard.

Where in the N.T. have Christians been given the freedom to kill their enemies? And, I would ask you also seriously, can you serve two masters? If you call yourself a Christian and commit your allegiance to Christ then turn around and swear allegiance to another king is this not the definition of treason? The first 300 hundred years of the Church there was no dispute on this issue it only arose with Constantine's decree that all of his soldiers had to be "Christian."

It is true that the Lord's Prayer is incompatible with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Amen! In Matthew 8:5-13, Jesus praised a soldier's faith. Now, why would our Llord would praise anything in a person that the Devi's adore?

The centurion introduced himself as "a man under authority." That is fascinating in itself, as from the point of view of the Jews, the centurion was the man of authority. The centurion was the man who was in command whenever a unit of Romans created havoc among them. It would have been normal for them to see the centurion approach them as the boot that was upon their necks.

But this man pointed, first of all, that he understood what it was like to be under authority, and that he understood how the human "chain of command" operated. He knew that Caesar--5,000 miles away--could give a command for something to happen in Judea, and Caesar did not have to come to Judea to do it himself. He could give the command from his throne in Rome and be confident that it would happen in Judea. Then the centurion extended what he understood about Caesar's chain of command to Jesus' spiritual chain of command.

This is what the centurion grasped that the disciples had not even yet grasped: The disciples still saw Jesus as just a holy man under God in the same mold as Elijah or Moses. They did not grasp that Jesus Himself was the authority, the commander. The centurion realized that Jesus himself was the Boss. And that was what was astounding, that this gentile understood what the disciples still did not.

But would it not be better to have Christians in the military so that they can be salt in the military? Do we want everyone in the military to be men who are living in darkness, whom God has given them over to a depraved mind? No! We need true men of God who refuse to rob, rape, and pillage - who speak out when they see these atrocities! We need commanding officers and authorities who know that they will have to give an account to the Judge of all earth. We need men in the armed forces who have a right fear of God! May God help us if our military is filled only with atheists and heathen!

The implication of the OP is that soldiers serve Satan.

This would suggest governing authorities are Satanic.
