  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was not really all that impressed with the movie to be honest with you. I've seen scarier movies then that. Yes it had it's moments but I don't think it was all that.

This was similar to the movie Cave. At least with Cave it explained how the creatures became what they were. This movie here doesn't and just leaves you asking questions.

I used to work for 3 yrs at Hollywood Video. Quit this past September. I used to watch movies all the time when I worked there. Not watching as much now but still trying to keep up. Has anyone seen Cave? Just wondering what your thoughts were in comparison to this movie.

I didn't see The Cave, but critics gave The Cave a D+ average, and The Descent got a B+ average.

They answered what and how those creatures got there.
Those were humans who got stuck down there many generations ago, and they evolved into what they are now.

What other questions could you possibly have?

Gee..I don't recall hearing that. *scratching head*The girls thought they were in a well known cave until they got trapped. It was only then that they were told by that one chick that this was a "new" cave and she had hoped they would be able to claim the discovery.

I just asked my husband if he recalls them saying anything about where the creatures came from and he said no as well. Did the girls formulate their own conclusions?

Well, "IF" that's how those creatures got to be like that it's pretty much the SAME as Cave. So if Cave got a low rating I don't understand how Descent got a higher one. Maybe it's because it was all girls? *rolling eyes*

I just saw it the other day and was really underwhelmed. Maybe I'm desensitized from playing scary games, because I didn't find it scary whatsoever. Pan's Labyrinth has way more tension than the Descent and it isn't even a horror film.

I watched it couple nights ago. I liked the idea of an all female cast in a action/horror movie - gave it a different take than if it was male cast. I felt the movie was more action/suspence than horror.

The "monsters" (yawn...) - the special effects costumes reminded me some of the vampires from the movie Dusk to Dawn. There wasnt anything spooky about them.

The only thing about the movie that I would have the "willies" in real life about was the claustrophobia feeling of inside the cave - especially when the one female got partly stuck trying to crawl thru that tunnel between the caverns. I woulda freaked if it was me. Found out years ago the hard way that I dont like being buried under a collapsed tunnel/bunker complex....

Other than that, the movie plot wasnt bad and the acting wasnt bad either.

*spoiler

I really enjoyed 'The Descent' for its ability to appeal to that sense of claustrophobia and for its few disturbing images and jolts. It stopped working for me when the two main girls turned into hardened zombie killers. That aspect was overdone, cliched, and lame, and it took me away from what was working for the movie, which was the vulnerability of the women trapped in the cave.
I do like how the main character, the one who lost her family in the beginning, had become psychologically distraught enough by their loss that she was so detached from the fear of her situation in the cave at the end that she descended (hence, the clever title) into the madness of her loss instead of succumbing to the dangers of the bloodthirsty cave denizens.
