The Dangerous Road
Peering upon waters of still, quiet reflection,
Within myself, I see the one who lost connection
From fruitless, laden steps of inner imperfection
Along Lifes broad and dangerous road to clear and certain end.
Where, from generation to the next, along its dusty trail,
Weathering each toiling step without respite, shade, or rail,
Withering prevails the minds, as fruitlessness makes frail
Along Lifes broad and dangerous road to clear and certain end.
But blessed be those who dare raise befallen heads in heed
Toward yon hill where, be praised, an image does breed
Internal longings to depart where others concede
Along Lifes broad and dangerous road to clear and certain end.
And with that step where many crumble -- in belief, faith, and trust
-- To stumble from Lifes fruitless ways toward many sinful lusts,
Praises to the One who gives courage to do what others need must
Along Lifes broad and dangerous road to clear and certain end.
Whence distance between shrinks unseen temptations left and right,
As wanderers approach nearer, nearer the shadowy sight
That compels each soul in longing to forever take flight
From Lifes broad and dangerous road to clear and certain end
Thence tree and nail give way to wells in an Oasis to the lost
Sheep of the shepherds herd that bore the ultimate cost
To bring unto Himself those conceived and given up for loss
Along Lifes broad and dangerous road to clear and certain end.
Yes, peering upon these waters of still, quiet reflection,
Within myself, I see, the one who lost connection
From fruitless, laden steps of inner imperfection
Along Lifes broad and dangerous road to clear and certain end.
