I always enjoyed the song 'boys don't cry.' They have had some very powerful songs -- they are one of the bands that I can just listen to for hours; they are one of the few bands in rock and roll that one does not have to actively listen to.

I must admit my previous aversion to the Cure seems to be waning somewhat. Not that I ever thought their was anything wrong with them per se, but I was sort of conditioned against them some time back by an ex-girlfriend who would play them all the time until I got to the point that I just couldn’t stand hearing them any more.

Recently I’ve noticed that I have started to enjoy them again.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE EVERYTHING up to and including "Wish".

It was all downhill from there, though (excluding, of course, their live albums released right after "Wish").

I agree with ya just about 100%!!!!! I saw The Cure on tour once for Disintigration and their last U.S. performance for Wish but I haven't seen 'em since. Those shows were incredible!!!!!! Since then they've gone downhill but I don't hate their new studio stuff since Wish, i just don't like it as much. I'd play every CD up through Wish plus their live albums ten times each before I listen once to Wild Mood Swings.

I'm kind of surprised they're still going and I respect that. They're truly legendary.

I kinda think the opposite though......I believe it's time for them to hang it up.

Then again, they seem to have retained some level of popularity among many of their fans, so maybe continuing on isn't that bad.

"Killing an Arab" is good. Well, a lot of their songs are good.

yes, but it is not politically correct, and in the current authoritarian socio-political climate I would be wary of playing it. the fact that it is about existentialism is lost on the unthinking p.c. brigade... :sigh:

I can't decide (then again, my opinion doesn't really matter in the long run). I mean, Their self-titled record was pretty decent (not great, but decent) and it sort of gave me hope that Robert Smith still had it in him. If he can keep cranking out stuff like that (or better) then I think they should keep it up, but if they are going to go back to "Wild Mood Swings" sort of stuff, I think they should hang it up. I'd rather see them go out on top then end up as washed up rock stars appearing on showboats and local amusement parks or something.
