  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mmmmm....thanks for reminding me about Poltergeist and Alien. I had forgotten how good those were.

Yep :) I have probably the largest horror film collection of anyone I know - both dvd's and video. It was and sorta still is a hobby of mine. Kinda weird that out of my entire collection.. my favorites are the most mainstream :( Actually, that's kind of disappointing.

Ever hear of something called "Fletcher Munson Syndrome"? Sound engineers are very aware of this. You see, as you listen to music in order to really hear it you have to keep turning it up because your ears, to make the explanation simple, stretch out. That's our society. The background noise just keeps getting louder and we have to find ways to keep turning things up. Be it sexual, horror, violence... whatever. Once you've seen it it's old news.

I don't know how many of you remember but when Blazing Saddles came out it was quite the sensation because of all the swearing. Now it airs on TNT with hardly any bleeps at all. Thirty years before that Gone with the Wind was actually banned from some theaters because Clark Gable said, "I don't give a damn." Lenny Bruce was shocking. Andy Dick uses the same words but he's just an idiot. We keep turning up the volume to hear the shock over the background noise... where the last shocking things have already blended in. It's just culture.

I'll still watch American horror movies, if I find one that looks like it could be decent. But the new movies just aren't near as good as the classic 70's and 80's horror, and foreign horror. So I've pretty much left mainstream American horror in favor of more obscure horror and extreme cinema, like Cannibal Holocaust, Aftermath, Suspiria, Shutter, and on and on goes the list.
