  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm a senior at The Citadel and my advise is to:

1. Arrive in the best physical condition possible. Be able to run 3 miles in about 25 minutes, do 60+ push-ups in 2 minutes and 60+ sit-ups in that same time. The better the shape you show up in the easier it will be for you. Also try to get acclaimated to the hot weather, it can get very hot in Charleston.

2. Go on the Citadel library site and learn of the facts they have listed under the "knob knowledge" section. Learn the Cadet Creed, the Cadet Prayer, the Alma Mater and the names of the Presidents. Know this stuff before you come and you'll be ahead of the curve.

3. Get your leather shoes early and break them in very well. Breaking in your shoes is more important that shining them, they will teach you how to shine during cadre but having your shoes broken in will save you from having terrible blisters, belive me I know!

4. Attitude. Come with the right attitude. Its very important that you arrive with the realization that for the next year you are always going to have someone telling you what to do and everything you do will be wrong! Just be humble and listen to your superiors because they know what they are talking about. Make friends with your classmates because you are going to have to relie on them a lot. When your classmate needs something, do whatever you can to help them. Everything you do, both good and bad WILL come back to you.

5. Finally, maintain a relationship with God, you will need his help to make it through the four-years. I imagine that since your posting on a Christian website you already do this, but make a special effort to go to church and practice your faith before and after you report.

That about covers it, good luck!

I graduated from the Citadel in 1996 (Oscar Company). I can help you out in any way. Send me a private message with your phone number and I will gladly give you a call and give you the scoop. Or, look me up at www.switchboard.com. My last name is Leaumont.

First piece of advice, get The Guidon, the book they send to you with your acceptance package, and start learning the Cadet Prayer and Alma Mater.

CONGRATULATIONS! I loved the school and was in Army ROTC most of my time there, despite being in the USAF now. (I chose the USAF b/c they let me fly).

God bless,
Dave
