  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is the difference between this Church of Christ and the International Chrurch of Christ considered to be a religous movement?:
International Church of Christ
This group is definitely to be avoided. Along with its erring doctrine that baptism is necessary for salvation, it is legalistic, manipulative, and uses guilt and aberrant doctrines to keep its members in line. Though it is not a cult per se, it has many cult practices. It has destroyed many lives and left many others wary of anything Christian.

But the Church of Christ does def. preach baptism essential for salvation....

Okay, I have a couple of questions---

Is this "Church of Christ" that the OP discusses the Church of Christ denomination or is it the "Body of Christ" that all Christians regardless of denomination belong too?

Because if it is the former then this is the wrong forum for this post to be in since Church of Christ is an actual denomination.

No, you're confused.

If you see a church that has "church of Christ" on the side of it then it is non-denominational.

Ok Now I am confused even more

There is a Church of Christ on the side of the road up the street, How is this "Church of Christ" different than the movement? I realize the ICOC reads to be spun off of the original COC...But how can you tell the difference???

Just for clarification....

All the "Church of Christ" congregations I see are wholly independent, and not organized under a single administrative and legal hierarchy?

Who does the ordinations for the ministers in the Church of Christ? Are they all self ordained?

You've posted the dogma & doctrine of the "Church of Christ"...where did this doctrine come from (I know, THE BIBLE, but someone put it all together...)? Who publishes it.

Can I rent a building and put up a sign that says "Church of Christ" without some central organization thinking I ought to join it's association?

I think our issue isn't so much with your doctrines, as it is with our definitions of "denomination".

I guess you can say that they're self ordained...
if you want to be a minister... you can.. there's no one who appoints them

I got the information that I posted on this site from church-of-christ.org...
I don't know who wrote it, but anyone could write it. It's not like we only want our minister to write information down. If I wanted to make a Website and put information about the church of christ... then I def. could

yes sir... you sure could. There is no central organization. It usually goes like this...

I drive down the street and see a building with "The church of Christ" on it... and I say "hmmm there's a church of christ!" wow... let me visit it...

I attend and see if I like it... I check to make sure they have their bibles open, I make sure they're worshiping according to the bible... and that's it.

Even we who are members of the body of Christ enjoy good oxymoron statements!:D

Thanks Wes!
