  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey All. I was wondering if we could make this a sticky thread for people that have problems with the Catechism or want to learn about it, maybe even have a daily quote or something?

Well I hope we can, Ill start the bidding :) ..lol

There are these footnotes down the bottom of my St.Pauls Catechism, it has symbols and citations such as:

LG 48 § 3; cf. [ 1 Cor 10:11 ] <--- This part I know what it means.
[------------]
^
That part has me stumped.

Also this part:

DV 21
DV 22

What does all this mean??? :(

Both happen to be Vaticain II documents:
Lumen gentium : http://www.ourladyswarriors.org/teach/lumegent.htm
Dei Verbum: http://www.ourladyswarriors.org/teach/deiverbu.htm

Each with their own footnotes which is why your example also lists Cor. becuase its the refernce used in LG.

Already the final age of the world is with us (cf. 1 Cor. 10:11) and the renewal of the world is irrevocably under way- it is even now anticipated in a certain real way, for the Church on earth is endowed already with a sanctity that is real though imperfect. However, until there be realized new heavens and a new earth in which justice dwells (cf. 2 Pet. 3:13) the pilgrim Church, in its sacraments and institutions, which belong to this present age, carries the mark of this world which will pass, and she herself takes her place among the creatures which groan and travail yet and await the revelation of the sons of God (cf. Rom. 8: 19-22).

MorphRC,

Yes the documents are long, but if you look up the section it refers to it makes it a lot easier. LG 48 3 refers to section 48 paragragh 3 in Lumen gentium. If you us the KofC online Catechism it will take you directly to the document or verse that is being referenced. A great research tool!

Oh ok. Kool. I read 250 Pages of the Catechism in 2 days, with noting and references! Had to read some stuff over and over for it to sink in, cause of its format style. But all in all I give:  ** Note: Ask Admin's for clapping emotion **

Is it just me, or does the Catechism answer almost every question a Christian asks? I mean I wanted to know for instance, who are the People of God, I thought it was still the Jews. The Catechism says that the NEW people of God, is the Body of God, The Church, the first believers, the Pope, the Bishops, all who believe in the Sacraments, which means Catholics are. ALLAH AKBAR!

The Catechism is officially my favourite book now! :priest:

I just borrowed one of the Church Library's copies today. It's a hefty sucker, isn't it? Still, I'll get through as much as I can before I have to return it; I'll probably be placing an order on Amazon.ca soon...
