John Carter of the carter report recentely had as one of his guest that he interviews DR. Hugh Ross. This is Odd since Hugh Ross is, the last time i checked which was 4 months ago an Old Earth Creationist. He believes the world is Billions of years old but was designed by a creator? this is a hybrid of evloution and creation. this is rather odd. Does any one else know anything about it?

Another problem. Is it my imagination or is the SDA Chruch going liberal. What I mean by that is I am seeing issues that are being rasied and solved using something other then scripture and the word of God. Creation, Homosexuality, Womens ordination, The authority of the chruch, Abortion. A news paper here in my local area ran an article and it it it labled the sda church as a liberal chruch, because of it's stand on social issues. is it just me or is that the way it is.

There have always been liberals among God's people. Doesn't make their views right, but that's just the way it is. Are you shocked by this?

On the issue of liberalism and conservatism in the Church, I am reminded of the parallel with the Sadducees and Pharisees.

The Sadducees were the liberals of the Jewish people while the Pharisees were the conservatives of Israel. I have noticed that it's not recorded in the Bible that Jesus had a lot of interaction with the Sadducees. Why? Because they were a lot farther from the Truth. The Pharisees, on the other hand, had almost everything right but they were proud, overzealous, and fanatical. Christ was able to win a few souls from the Pharisees. He filled the last vital link the Pharisees were missing - a Savior (though only a few accepted Him).

While we must hold fast to the Truth*, but we're as spiritually poor as the Pharisees if we don't have that Savior.

*Anyone else notice that Revelation 3:11 says, "Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown." This was near the close of the message to the Church of Philadelphia, which we know represents the early days of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Christ is telling them here that they've been placed on a solid foundation of Truth... which is today being picked apart!

How old do you think the earth is and by what means are you using to establish its age.

We do not believe in evolution at all, in any way shape or form.

Is it that important to know just how old the earth is.

Many Adventists are liberal (or at least vote liberal) on social and political issues; I don't think that's a new thing. It has a lot to do with a fear of Sunday laws. The thinking is that if we elect liberals, then our religious liberties will be in less danger than if we elect religious conservatives who oppose gay marriage, abortion, etc. As a church, we don't take much of a stand on moral issues in relation to public policy, and our official statements on things like abortion are rather weak, in my opinion.

Often we hear church members say, "You can't legislate morality." This is simply untrue and unbiblical. The government passes moral laws all the time, and according to Romans 13, they should. What they should not do is legislate religion. We should take a stand on moral issues but at the same time fight against any laws that would dictate how people worship.

Some Adventists do believe in some form of evolution. Some Adventist creationists also believe in an old earth. The problem for Adventists is that some of these views call into question a literal reading of the creation account in Genesis, including the seventh-day Sabbath. For this reason, I don't think there are many Adventist evolutionists. OECs are perhaps more common in our churches.

That probably does not mean that they believe in evolution.

I do knpw some who believe that the earth in some form was here before God created the animals and man on it in the Garden of Eden.

My point that to speculate (and that is all it is) on just how old the earth is, will be of no great help to my salvation.

Yes, I agree. My dad is one of those who believe that God created everything but that the earth itself was probably created millions of years before God created anything to live on it. He believes that the geological characteristics that we can observe support the idea of an old earth, but he doesn't believe in evolution of animals from one species to another. That's why I was trying to distinguish between evolution and old-earth creation. Sorry if I didn't make that clear enough in my post. On the other hand, I believe that catastrophism (including the flood) caused many of the changes in the earth that make it appear millions of years old.

And you're right; our beliefs about the age of the earth usually are irrelevant to our salvation. To some people, however, these issues are serious enough to cause them to doubt God's existence or His personal involvement in our lives. They also cause some people to doubt that the creation account in Genesis is literal while others subscribe to some version of a "gap theory" as a way to account for millions of years without accepting evolution. Either way, many Christians struggle with how to explain the seeming discrepanices between the Bible and science, and some do renounce their faith in God as a result. That's when it matters to salvation.

Micro-evolution is irrefutable. Micro-evolution is what causes the changes we see within a species due to various expression within in it's genome or DNA. Macro-evolution is not supported by the evidence in the biota or the fossil evidence.
