  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What did everybody think of this movie? I thought it was a great idea with flawed execution. The acting was so-so, there wasn't a very interesting visual style, the music left something to be desired, etc. But I particularly disliked the ending.

Throughout the movie, the theme (and a quite interesting one) was that there is no "right," that there is no way for the main character to make everything better. His father remarks that he cannot "play God." However, in the end, this is exactly what he does. He changes the world so that we get this pretty, picture-perfect ending, and then he burns his journals. Sure, he gives up the girl, but he does so to get happiness in the end. Ultimately, the main character does a good job at being God. It's not only unrealistic, but completely against the nature of the rest of the film. Blech.

I thought it f-ing A+. The concept was far more original than most of the movies these days which are mostly sequel/prequels or **** that's been done to death, dug up from the grave, and done a few more times just for good measure.

I thought the flashback sequences were very well intertwined with the present sequences, and the ending was great. Not because it looked cool, but because of the meaning behind it. He gave up his own happiness/life (depending on the ending) to save the girl he loved. And all the issues that were addressed made it all the most interesting.

And with all the outcomes of his actions, it was like watching a half dozen movies in one, but still closely knitted together so as not to be all over the place.

I thought it was damn good.

I think it was unrealistic due to the fact that this one small group of kids exeprienced more pain, betrayl, suffering, problems, etc. in one short year of their lives (in the beginning of the movie) than do most people in their entire life.
It was kinda like, just expect the worst for each situation in the movie.

One year? The first part of the spans from when he and his friends were 6 or 7 until they were 13 and 14. Didn't you see them age?

It was weird. I liked it though it kept my interest. I agree, the ending was not very satisfying.
