It was mentioned in the Bible, twice

Joshua 10:13
And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

2 Samuel 1:18
(Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.)

You can use http://www.biblegateway.com/ to find texts while online.

I have not heard of any eviudence that it was "thrown out." More likely it simply was not preserved.

Ooops, I said Second Chronicles in my original post.

I've been reading online that you can buy it, and that it was translated in around 1840, so apparently it was preserved.

I'd like to read it, but just can't find it online.

My husband read some of the other Apocrypha books. One said you can't go to heaven unless you keep the seventh day sabbath and another one said no woman would make it into heaven.

I didn't read them myself, so I couldn't tell you what they say.

I'd like to read Jasher though since it is mentioned in other biblical books.

By "preserved" I meant preserved in the canonical books. You might want to do a thorough search on the web to make sure that what you can dl'd is what is being referred to in the OT.

Ahh, gotcha.

See, that's just it, I won't know for sure that I'm getting a copy of the translated original.

I just remember highlighting the verses that mention the book fo Jasher and putting a big ? beside them wondering if that was something I should check into.

I had forgotten about it, but someone mentioned the book of Jasher in another thread, and it has me intrigued again.
