Hi! Im a high school student and am reading the book of Ezekial, which I find to be a really interesting, intense, and deep book! Ezekial 28 has Satan's fall and stuff! I am also having a bit of difficulty understanding all of it! I get it for the most part but I'm wondering if anyone knows any cool things about the book, or know about it and could tell me kinda a bit of what I need to know from it!

What do you need to know about it?

Thanks for the post, happy face!

A couple of things -

Firstly, this should probably be in the Exposition and Bible Study thread.

Secondly, I don't personally think Ezekiel 28 is talking about Satan. :p But lots of people do, so don't worry too much about it...

Having gotten that off my chest, the historical background is very important - Ezekiel is with the exiles in or near Babylon, but there are some Jews left in Jerusalem. One of the issues is whether the exiles are still important to God.

A key passage in the book is Ezekiel 10, where the glory cloud (symbolising God's presence) leaves the temple and goes east - i.e. towards the exiles. The message is that God is still with them, and will bring them back and dwell with them. This is the context of those wonderful passages like chapters 34 (where God says that he will feed them and rule over them as a shepherd) and 36 (where God says that he will put his Spirit in them to enable them to keep his law). Several chapters are taken up with judgements against other nations, but this is demonstrate that God will get rid of his people's enemies.

Hope this helps.

This is from Easton's Bible dictionary. Ezekiel gave very significant prophecies concerning the two houses of Israel taken away captive, the northern house of Israel first, and forty years later, the house of Judah to the south. He prophecied that eventually the two houses of Israel would be reunited as one Israel or "ALL" Israel. (Ez. 37:16,17;Romans 11:25,26) He was a major prophet. The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia has a much more detailed discription of Ezekiel and his life and influence, but it was too large to copy and paste from E-Sword.

Ezekiel means - God will strengthen.
1. #1Ch 24:16 "Jehezekel."
2. One of the great prophets, the son of Buzi the priest #Eze 1:3 He was one of the Jewish exiles who settled at Tel-Abib, on the banks of the Chebar, "in the land of the Chaldeans." He was probably carried away captive with Jehoiachin #Eze 1:2 #2Ki 24:14-16 about B.C. 597 His prophetic call came to him "in the fifth year of Jehoiachin’s captivity" (B.C. 594 He had a house in the place of his exile, where he lost his wife, in the ninth year of his exile, by some sudden and unforeseen stroke #Eze 8:1 24:18 He held a prominent place among the exiles, and was frequently consulted by the elders #Eze 8:1 11:25 14:1 20:1 His ministry extended over twenty-three years #Eze 29:17 B.C. 595-573, during part of which he was contemporary with Daniel #Eze 14:14 28:3 and Jeremiah, and probably also with Obadiah. The time and manner of his death are unknown. His reputed tomb is pointed out in the neighbourhood of Bagdad, at a place called Keffil.

From a poster in another topic:
There is more written concerning the millenium (Rev. 20:6-7) in the book of Ezekiel than any other book...which is entirely future from now.

Ezekiel is a fascinating book. When reading the OT, try to find parallels in the NT. Book of revelation is filled with symbology of Daniel and Ezekiel. This appears to show the Great Day that God is glorified and looks almost like the supper of the great God in revlation.
I saw this one time when reading it:

reve 19:17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, 18 "that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all [people,] free and slave, both small and great." 19

Ezekiel 39:8 "Surely it is coming, and it shall be done," says the Lord GOD. "This [is] the day of which I have spoken. .......13 "Indeed all the people of the land will be burying, and they will gain renown for it on the day that I am glorified," says the Lord GOD. ......15 "The search party will pass through the land; and [when anyone] sees a man's bone, he shall set up a marker by it, till the buriers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon Gog...... 17 " And as for you, son of man, thus says the Lord GOD, 'Speak to every sort of bird and to every beast of the field: "Assemble yourselves and come; Gather together from all sides to My sacrificial meal Which I am sacrificing for you, A great sacrificial meal on the mountains of Israel, That you may eat flesh and drink blood. 18 You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, Drink the blood of the princes of the earth, Of rams and lambs, Of goats and bulls, All of them fatlings of Bashan. . 21 " I will set My glory among the nations; all the nations shall see My judgment which I have executed, and My hand which I have laid on them.

Another parallel I found was the 5 months of "locusts". The only other amount of time this is used in the Bible, is the flood of Noah!!! So this might represent a final judgement of sorts, don't know. Interesting though.

gen 7:12 And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights. 24 And the waters prevailed on the earth one hundred and fifty days.

reve 9:5 And they were not given [authority] to kill them, but to torment them [for] five months. Their torment [was] like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man.

exodus 14:12"[Is] this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, 'Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians?' For [it would have been] better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness." 13 And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 "The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace."

Thank you for quoting my post, In Christ Forever...:)

I hope my post wasn't misunderstood. I did not mean that the entire book of Ezekiel is future, but that the millenium is future. Although, there are past, present, and future applications to a lot of prophecies...not all...but a lot.
