Namaste all,

given the aggressive posture of Israels pre-emptive strikes, and knowning their past history, i would agree. the Iranian nuke facilities are not long for this world. hopefully, folks recall what they did to the Iraqi one in the early 1980's.

in any case, lobbing missles back at Israel is going to be a dicey proposition for them.

it's quite clear Israel has no qualms about expanding it's protective buffer zone with regards to surface to surface missle attacks, hence the continued development of their own anti missle system. the Patriot didn't work as well as hoped during Desert Storm which necessitated a re-working of the system. the US has revamped the Patriot and some are deployed in forward areas in Israel, however, the Israeli defense force has developed it's own model which seems to be superior to the American ones.

the fact of the matter is that Israel has, when it wants, total air dominance over the skies of the greater Middle East, thus, air strikes on Iran are well within their capability. of course, Iran isn't going to take it lying down.. though there may not be a whole lot that they can actually do to stop it, apart from hiding the systems and moving them around. the F-16 is unmatched in the world today in terms of air to ground combat. add in a flight of F-15's and there is little chance that they could be effectively stopped.

now... what's interesting is that Janes has reported recently that Iran was working on it's own air defense system to prevent this very scenario from happening. the anecdotal evidence suggests that they still have a lot of research and development to do before this is a viable weapon system.

You're referring to the Arrow ABM systems (aka Hetz)? I'd have to agree with your post. If Israel decided to launch a pre-emptive attack soon on Iranian nuclear facilities, I doubt Iran would effectively counter-attack.

there are a few scenarios where Iran would have a capable counter attack.. did you know that, during the 90's, the Clinton adminstration didn't oppose Irans' purchase of three Charlie Class Russian ballistic/cruise missle subs?

these weapons platforms are huge force multipliers! it's amazing to think that America didn't protest the sale of those systems more vigorously, especially given the fact that for Iran, the U.S. is the "great Satan". side bar... funny that Islam has no concept of Satan, per se.

of course, Israel has modern destroyers that can do a fairly effective job in tracking the subs... however, there really aren't any other countries in the region that can. i'm still amazed... all these years later.
