Overall, I thought the message was good until she started calling out Trump give illegal immigrants a pass
She didn't call for POTUS to give undocumented persons a "pass." She called upon him to show mercy. One can provide merciful treatment in the process of enforcing the law.

There's another thread in this forum about El Salvador taking in deported U.S. citizens.
Rep Brandon Gill called for Rep. Ilhan Omar, a U.S. Citizen and elected Congressperson to be deported.
Actual Native Americans, who were here before all of us, are being detained by ICE and threatened with deportation.

And can we just all appreciate the fantastical, insanely absurd irony of a President and his staff talking about deporting "criminals" when he himself is a 34 times convicted felon who hasn't served a single appreciable moment of a sentence for his crimes?

Just soak that in. Deep breaths.
I don't believe the hype. No U.S. citizens will be deported.

It is possible to show merciful treatment to criminals as they endure the consequences of their actions. But I do not believe special treatment should be given to murders, rapists, and drug dealers.

She wasn't calling him out to give illegal immigrants "a pass"; she was calling on him to show them *mercy*, which I believe Jesus identified as one of the weightier measures of the law. And even lawbreakers are supposed to be given due process; that's in the Constitution and it applies even to those who aren't citizens.

And while I don't agree with transgenderism myself, here again the Bishop was pointing out that there are such people who are AFRAID. Common human decency shouldn't be reserved only for those of whom you approve. Didn't Jesus also say something about there being no reward in loving only those who love you?

Yes, there are immigration laws.....but here again comes Jesus, and what did he say about bowing before the letter of the law while violating the *spirit* of the law? Does your neighbor have to have documentation for you to love him as yourself?

And who qualifies as a child of God would be best left for God to determine, I would think.

The Bishop's bottom line is that all are made in the image of God, and to mistreat the image of God is to mistreat God.
The bottom line is, see to your own house first. We have people here that are afraid and have needs. Trump is here to focus on that. It was awful what this woman did. She made it a political speech instead of a sermon.

So when we deport them we should do it with cruelty. Well, this is a Christian forum, I guess we should consider all Christian opinions here.

What do you think?
Well, this is a Christian forum, I guess we should consider all Christian opinions here.
Everyone including the president of the united should subscribe to this principle
Mt 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
1Ti 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house,
he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

1 tim 3:1 ¶ This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; {of good … : or, modest }
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; {given … : or, ready to quarrel, and offer wrong, as one in wine }
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

Yes. The most recent confirmed case I can find is Mark Lyttle but the GAO in 2020 issued a report indicating that as many as 70 US citizens were potentially deported over the previous 5 years. It's not ultra-common, but it has happened. So you see why I wonder how you can be so positive it won't happen this time.

No U.S. Native Americans are being threatened with deportation. The Mescalero Apache tribe claimed that a member of their tribe was stopped on January 22 and asked to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. As has been stated, if you are in the area of a raid by ICE to find dangerous criminals you may be asked to provided identification, just like if you are stopped by police for a potential traffic violation.

Please use the proper quote function when you quote people.
Normally I do when quoting posts, and in fact did so in the post you were replying to. However, in that instance, I was referring to what someone else--not the person being specifically replied to--said. It made more sense to me to use quotation marks rather than the normal quotes feature in order to differentiate the post I was responding to and one I was alluding to.

I am still fairly positive.

Here is the text of Bishop Mariann Budde's recent homily, which has been called radical, political and "nasty in tone".

Can someone point out to me, among the calls for mercy on those in fear and a universal recognition of human dignity, which parts are radical, political or nasty?

A Service of Prayer for the Nation Homily A Service of Prayer for the Nation Homily

I think it's a thoughtful and helpful sermon. I love that Solzhenitsyn quote. I think calling him out by name is confrontational and a mistake. She seems to be both begging and condemning him. I don't think it's rhetorically helpful, and it ensures it will become divisive and "political." I think she could have said those same things without that and perhaps been more effective. Still, it's a great sermon. Poor Trump just has thin skin. Just imagine if we had a president that could take that moment with grace instead of becoming bitter and resentful.

Okay. Just be aware that it circumvents the ignore function of other users.

"dangerous criminals" like the middle school teacher of 22 years who received DACA after his parents brought him into the country as an infant who will be deported back to Mexico, a country he has no memory of and has never been to?

Or were you talking about the convicted felon in the White House?

Be assured that ICE is not raiding schools. Especially in cases where sanctuary city or state officials do not comply, wider sweeps may be necessary and more illegal aliens in the same area may be arrested. So too court hearings continue. If a federal judge signs a warrant, DACAs, just like anyone else, can be arrested at hearings.

What would Trump showing them mercy look like?

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12 NIV
