The Big Bang theory was based on the work of an ex priest-turned-astronomer

Abbe George Lemaitre

'Twas a good article. I had always thought the Big Bang was a far more recent theory than the nineteen twenties or thirties.

What you said (in the part I quoted from you) however, is misleading. You make it sound like "existence" can be finitely aged, which it cannot be. The physical "parts" of the universe such as lightweight atoms, planets, stars, etc. (anything coming into existence after The Bang), however, can be.

the big bang theory kind of seems like it would be true to me. I dont know why. I have read so much about it.. and it seems more realistic to me with more evidence than there is God and he created the earth. But thats just what I think. I am looking for info in which might help me believe otherwise

The "big bang" will not occur until the end of the universe, not the beginning.

Monsignor Georges Lemaitre (1894-1966), a Roman Catholic priest and president of the Vatican's Pontifical Academy of Science, originated the concept for the Big Bang with his "Hypothesis of the Primeval Atom" which was based on the doctrine of the Catholic Church that the Universe was created by God from a single atom, much as Christ's miracle of multiplying the loaves of bread and fishes. Pope Pius XII endorsed his theory because it tied a strict literal fundamentalist interpretation of Holy Scripture to science. Monsignor Lemaitre described his theory as "a day without yesterday... The Cosmic Egg exploding at the moment of the creation." In a paper written in 1922, he wrote that the universe had begun in light just "as Genesis suggested it."

Why in the world are you arguing with someone who hasn't posted on the board for more than six years?

I'm not entirely sure of the point you're trying to make. An idea is not rendered valid or invalid on the basis of its author's beliefs.

Does this mean you agree with it because a priest discovered it, or... what?
