How do you reconcile findings like this with the "black and white" of the bible, that conflicts with such evidence? How does that change your view of how to read the bible?

Well, I already take the Bible with a grain of salt (since, after all, it was written by human beings (rather than by God Himself) and it was written 2,000 years ago), so things like that only affirm my belief that the Bible shouldn't be taken completely literally.

Well, it depends if you read "male and female" as "'male' and 'female'" or "'male and female'". It would seem much better if he made them "male or female", but it is an and, as such, there may be some with both.

Are retarded children evil? Adam and Eve were not created retarded. Such problems exist because of a fallen Universe. People who belief "imperfection" to be a result of sin aren't saying those who are born with physical anomalies are evil or that they deserve it. They are saying that for all time original sin compromised "perfection" and while I don't tend to agree with littlenipper regarding a lot of things I don't believe the intent of his post was to suggest that infants who are intersex are evil.

Most people I encounter who have a literal understanding of whatever version of the bible they prefer have beliefs along this line. To me it's a way of explaining away the knowledge that we have in contemporary times that contradicts the understanding of those who wrote the various books of the Bible,

What exactly has that to do with the topic? Try to concentrate.

There are two kinds of bad things that can happen to a child: ones that are caused by human actions - abuse, neglect, &c. - and ones which are outside of our control - earthquakes, birth defects. What kind of god would organise things so that not only were humans free to be cruel to each other, even children, but that children are punished for their ancient ancestors' sins, not because of anything anyone chooses to do, but through horrible natural events?

If you think abortion is an evil, then at least try to see the difference between abortion - a matter which is ultimately, I presume you believe, down to human free will, even if God abhors it - and birth defects, which are not within anyone's power to prevent. Well, except God's, of course, but apparently the children deserve it.

u honestly think the entire UNIVERSE's problems stem from a myth about Adam and Eve, which in all honesty, was a totally different story borrowing aspects of other Babylonian, Mesopotamian, Sumerian and Pheonician legends?

this is what the debate is about; science vs DOGMA, which is what you endorse.

Step back, look at all the evidence, and then decide. Don't decide based upon what you think "god thinks". Use sound, objective reasoning without the bias of religion/dogma, and you'll figure the answer out. Otherwise you'll simply be drawing to ill-fated conclusions dooming you into darkness and ignorance.

The world isn't perfect, because not everything unfortunate in our world is mans fault.
