OK. What's up with this thread? I thought I introduced tangents.... hehe.

So the Bible... that old book right? Well, like Mark53 I like the Greek and Hebrew... got friends who read that stuff so I often have to ask them about things...

Truth is truth. Bible, Hagakure, CurryMenu.

Let's be honest... how boring is the Bible? I mean the English ones, even the "originals" are tedious, but translation is more interesting methinx. Personally, I read sci-fi.

FLANDIDLYANDERS,

Sci-fi, eh?

Yeah I've been an Trekker for years--even after I was Born again.
I even like Yoda.........I love Star Wars.
But not above The Lord.

I suppose your sci-fi with the Lord will happen when it's time.......all is suggnificant so Sci-fi on my friend.........nothing stops God to break through
even in the midst of Sci-fi reading!

I was told by The Lord about a 4 years ago when I was pondering over a situation in our Family---in my sisters life, He said:

"I use everything,...I waste nothing."

Take care my new friend!

It really blows my mind how folks are equating having a non-literal view of the Bible as rejecting Christ. I worship God, not a book, however nifty that book may be.

I have great respect for the Scriptures, but they are not God. They may be inspired by God, but they were written down by human beings, and human beings are fallible (IMO).

Just because I do not hold the view that the Bible is inerrant does not mean that I do not love God and seek Christ with all of my heart.

Obviously I do not agree with a Fundamentalist view on the Bible, but I acknowledge that Fundamentalists love Christ as well and are honestly seeking to serve Him. It seems that respect does not flow both ways...

I agree whole-heartedly! It is really saying "If you don't agree with MY understanding than God doesn't agree either!" So the "I" is greater than "God". People with those views shoul;d be very careful as they might be mis-understood!

Any way we worship God not the Bible! Or, is it the quadrangle, instead of the trinity!.

A person must be very careful with their walk with God.

The Book Of Revelation speaks plainly about what to expect for altering the scriptures. Do you want to take that chance?

Revelation 22 18-19 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book...

Be very careful - does a person want to take such a chance? The Bible is...

Except "this book" is clearly the Revelation of Jesus Christ to St. John the Divine, not the Bible, which wouldn't be in existence as a two-testament volume taken as a coherent whole for another two centuries after that was written.

And in any case, if it did mean the Bible as a whole, that would condemn every Protestant ever alive, in that they dropped at least seven books from the Bible-as-known-before-the-Reformation.

Polycarp1-

You did exactly...exactly...what I thought you would do - follow me! You do what you like, my friend - God's very word condemns you. -I'm a speck of dust in God's eyes - but I will stick to what he has to say.

You read it how you like, adjust the actual text to your liking. Revelation 22 18-19 speaks for itself. If you my friend, want to actually take even the remote chance that the Bible isn't what it says it is...you won't be my guest. It is a very dangerous thing to even take that chance - the chance that it isn't true.

As for you following me - if that's what turns your crank. I'm not interested in following you, reading your many...many...many, posts, or whatever. I won't be responsible for you. You walk that path.

Feel free to highlight any of this if you wish...as I'm sure you or others will. But if I was you - don't highlight the Word Of God. (And I'm sincere about the
last part.) When you will have to deal with that - both you and I will have seen the grave.

Jolly good, me like, it is an infinite source of amusement to me that inerrant bible advocates will use 'proof texts' such as the one from Revelation and attempt to apply it to the whole bible when it couldn't possibly be, because as you mentioned the bible didn't exist until much later.

And lookout man, you did exactly what every other person does who uses proof texts to back up the idea of the inerrant bible, you don't even attempt to explain why Rev 22 18-19 should be applied to the whole bible, but instead but instead make vague threats about divine retribution.

Maybe if I ask a direct question . . .
What evidence is there to suggest that Rev 22 18-19 should be applied to the whole bible and not just the book in which it was written?

Since you've chosen to take this as personal, I will respond in public once. I have posted to this thread and subscribed to it well before you made that post. I will serve my Lord as He gives me strength and guidance, and if it means defending His Word against false teachings, then so be it.

FLANDIDLYANDERS said:
Jesus (Gospels) = excellent. The rest of the Bible = commentary.

Fl,

I beg your pardon, if you shall allow me to speak with you!

But after the Gospel is preached of what Jesus could say about The Good News, The Holy Spirit comes next, which Jesus couldn't tell you/tell them certain things at that point until they/you/me Received the Holy Spirit and what God's Spirit told them what Jesus at that time couldn't say to them now Christ' Spirit is saying it through the Rest of The Writtings. And the Old Testament was also looking into and being Amazed at the Hope that would come to God's People in the end times! It's still ALL OF GOD'S WORD. What do you think the Holy Spirit talked about in instructions to us? His Spirit talked to us about The Law of God that is Spiritual.

Like what's in your NAS or your KJV or NKJV Bible.

If not, we get no instructions by GOD'S WORD on how to Carry on Walking With Jesus through His Spirit. It's just not MATTHEW MARK LUKE AND JOHN and then ONLY commentaries, no no..... It's the HOLY SPIRIT'S TIME OF PREACHING AND COMPLETING THE GOOD NEWS. The Holy Spirit through Paul said, "My Gospel" at which point Jesus could speak about because they weren't ready to hear yet.

[bible]John 16:12-14[/bible]
[bible]Romans 2:16[/bible]
[bible]Romans 16:25[/bible]
[bible]2 Timothy 2:8[/bible]

So, begging your pardon again, if I might ask you:
Do you mean to tell me that you don't TAKE in your HEART
AS "GOD'S TRUTH" The Word or the Spirit in Acts?
or The Word or the Spirit in Romans,
Or Ephesians...or Revelation and the like?

Is the Holy Spirit now just a commentary work and nothing else?

And I'm not taking about the pages or the ink but ~The Word of God's Word~ that IS WRITTEN and to be written Spiritually on our hearts?
