I voted Capablanca, but the only U.S. World Champion, Bobby Fischer (Bliar - Clinton's Balkan wars' victim) is not without interest,

while even the conrtadictory "couple" or rivals : Tal - Petrosian, from Baltic countries and Armenia, are certainly notworthy.

Alekhine is obviously an historic jewell,
without forgetting Botvinik or Larsen, etc.

I voted Kasparov because he probably would beat all the earlier masters. However it should be pointed out that he has had the opportunity to learn from the former champions. Bobby Fischer was very strong though, Kasparov has achieved a higher rating but when you factor in the rating inflation it is extremely close. But since Kasparov has been so consistent for so long the honor has to go to him.

It is most definitely Kasparov, Alekhine second. Kasparov is best I've ever seen positionally, tactically, and strategically. Most of the players listed were dominant in one or two of the fields but then lacking in the rest. Yet these two are the only ones I've seen who are/were very proficient in all fields.

Alright, the number one chess player without question is Jesus  After all the divine beings come Hydra. As for humans... In my humble onion: 4th - Kasparov 5th - Shirov/Anand

I haven't studied enough games to know very much about the players, though. I do think that Kasparov is probably just better than Fischer; Fischer might make about the same moves with some small errors.

Capablanca, Lasker, Alekhine, and Karpov: These players seem to have very unique playing styles and ways of choosing moves. But the stronger players would beat them most of the time, no doubt. Perhaps Tal falls into this category also.
