  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Belgic Confession is awesome

I like the plain language and style of argument. My favorite part is:

So then, we do good works, but nor for merit-- for what would we merit? Rather, we are indebted to God for the good works we do, and not he to us, since it is he who "works in us both to will and do according to his good pleasure" ^60-- thus keeping in mind what is written: "When you have done all that is commanded you, then you shall say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have done what it was our duty to do.' "^60

What a sad state of affairs is the mind of a man who believes in merit of works.

It is wonderful - I purchased the NIV Reformation Bible simply because it had this and other confessions included. I've truly enjoyed reading and rereading the various confessions and catechisms.

I LOVE the Belgic Confession. It's the only full size confession I've read in its entirety. I was unable to find anything I could disagree with (except infant baptism, which I wouldn't say I disagree with, I'd say I'm unsure about it).
