Hello everyone!
I'm certainly no Bible scholar; I've never read much in (what I consider) the "dead zone" from Leviticus to Esther, nor have I ever given my full attention to anything after the Gospels (save Revelations). Additionally, I've never truly enjoyed any other version of the Bible than the King James Version, mainly, I suppose, because I love the unmatched lyrical beauty that is so prevalent within. Here are my very favorite books of the Bible (of the few I've read, naturally):
1) Ecclesiastes- What unspeakable wisdom (and--admittedly-- fallacies as well) lies within these pages!
2) Job- I found this book, in addition to being one of the most intensely poetic books of the Bible, to be one of the most sturdy building blocks of any religion that I've been introduced to (though I'm, obviously, certainly no expert on religion(s)).
3) Song of Solomon- "Until the day break, and the shadows flee away..." <--- What a line! This book is overflowing with beauty; as Orson Welles once wrote, "Song of Solomon is a love poem; perhaps the most intoxicatingly beautiful I know!"
4) Psalms and Proverbs- need no explanation
5) The Gospels- Certainly not for beauty here, but rather for the greatest story ever told!
So, here are a few questions for all you who know the Bible MUCH better than I:
What are your favorite books of the Bible?
Also, with the understanding that the books mentioned in the list above are, basically, all that Ive read from the Bible (+ Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Acts, Romans, and Revelations), what would you suggest I read next (knowing that I generally read the Bible more for its aesthetic value than its laws and suchthough I certainly dont mean to sound blasphemous thereI just cant really say I enjoy reading the Constitution)?
And one final question: of the Deuterocanonical books, which is your favorite? (I've only read The Wisdom of Solomon, and I thought it was teriffic)
