The Battle is a writing contest based on a drama performed by my church every year. I'm still working out how it will all fit together, but I have the basic idea, and would like some input.
The premise: Ten characters will live our their daily lives, uneventful or otherwise. Unfortunately for these ten people, all of that is about to come to an end. Every day, human souls unexpectedly find themselves standing before the gates of Heaven. The question is: Will they be let in?
Ten* members will create a character with which to participate in the contest. During the first week, each contestant will role-play as his/her character, each living out his/her daily life. At the end of the week, readers/contestants will vote to decide which character will be eliminated from the contest. That character will then be killed off by his/her author, who will thereby be eliminated from the contest (assuming each contestant will have only one character). This will continue until only two characters remain -- the finals will probably be held in a manner different than the rest of the contest, but I haven't decided yet as to how.
Now, when characters are killed off, their authors will need to explain how they died, as well as their fate afterward. Take Bob for example. If Bob dies a Christian, he will be welcomed into Heaven's gates. If Bob dies lost, he will be a stranger to Heaven, and find that he'd walked himself into Hell. Their eternal fate will be explained in this thread, when I post the results of the voting. If you want to debate that decision (Heaven/Hell) with me, go ahead. As long as it doesn't get out of hand, I think it would be helpful to discuss any disagreements on the matter. Don't worry, I won't be shoving anything down anyone's
throats.
Voting: This is a pretty simple process. Every seven days, a voting session will be held to decide who will be eliminated from the competition. Voters will vote for the three bottom characters, ranking each on accordingly. That is to say that any character ranked #1 will be the one you most want eliminated. All votes should be sent via pm to me, and any other judges whom I may or may not include -- I will inform you of any such judges. Either way, the decision is not up to me, but the readers and contestants (who can vote as well). Voters may vote on any basis -- who am I to tell you otherwise? However, this is intended to be a writing contest, so I advise you vote on the basis of each contestant's writing ability.
Also, due to the fact that people are voting only for the bottom three characters, contestants may vote for their own, though, if you want out of the competition, just tell me, and you can drop out without be obligated to write an elimination post (wherein your character dies).
My role: Obviously, I will host the contest, announcing whatever needs to be announced, such as eliminations, finals, and the like. But I might also choose to play as Satan, who basically sets the scene, throwing in a few remarks after every other elimination or so. I might even interact with the characters a little. But I'm not sure.
Tips: Contestants pretty much will have free reign over their characters' plots, so be creative with it, and make it interesting. That's how you'll stay in the contest.
(And as far as the killing off of the characters goes, try to be realistic. And nothing too gory, please. Details are okay, but we don't want to go too far with it.)

That's about all I have prepared, so I'll just leave it at that. But I would like some input, and I'm open to all ideas. I'm rather indecisive about much of this, so if you have some differing opinions as to how this should all go down, please share them.
