Considering a woman in most Western countries is not lawful to have sex until she is 16, then really the veils on young girls should be banned.

Consider, why would a mother put a veil on her six or seven year old daughter?

That to me, proves SOME Muslim men view female children as sex objects, and this smacks of peodaphilia and needs to be halted and stopped in Western countries. For what other reason would such young girls wear a veil in Western countries?

France started the ban, followed by Sweden and now Norway.

Although the ruling means that other municipalities in Norway can also introduce a ban on garments that veil everything but the eyes, this would only apply to the Muslim niqab, and not the scarf-like hijab.
"We are not forbidding religious garments. One must distinguish between the religious hijab and the completely covering niqab. The latter makes it impossible to have good communication between teacher and student, and between students as well," said Torger Ødegaard, city councilor for schools and education.
Teachers agree that education is more difficult when they cannot see facial expressions or the mouths of a student.
Norway becomes the third European country, after Sweden and France, to forbid the use of the niqab in schools.

I've taught in schools with large numbers of muslim pupils (up to 50%), with many girls choosing to wear a hijab. I didn't find it was an impediment to my teaching at all, although, as a science teacher, I would make them tie the hijab back into a 'pony tail'. This was never a problem.

I think a hijab is fine, as long as it is in school uniform colours.

It's very unusual for anyone in this part of the country to wear a veil that covers the face, but I'm sure I would be uncomfortable with this - just because I wouldn't be able to gauge their thoughts from facial expressions.

As our resident liberal...

I do wonder why, if we're truly diverse, why we can't allow students who want to wear religious items pertinent to their faith traditions -- allowing for certain bounds:

-- a head covering for Muslims is fine;
-- a yarmulke for a Jewish male is fine;
-- a cross necklace for Christians is fine;
etc.

a head covering for a Muslim woman is not a full burka; a cross necklace or pendant for a Christian is not carrying around a full replica of the cross used in Jesus' crucifixion.

Same thing with clothing: wearing a Star of David, or a crescent, or a cross is not the same as wearing a shirt which says, "Muslim heathen must repent!" or "Jihad against Christians and Jews!"

There are bounds of good taste and it seems like people should be able to wear clothing within those bounds.

It seems like we could be using some common sense (that we're not using in these cases, IMO).

I have no doubt there is some truth to what you say about some pedophilic Muslim men do view little girls as sex objects,(as they certainly do the women),however I fail to understand how whether they wear a veil or not would have any affect on this at all?:scratch:

The whole idea of the veil was to remove lust from the eyes of men? Correct? So then why should little girls wear it? As a mother that to me would appear that my daughters would be considered 'sexual' objects before the age of 16, which is outside the law. It's not against women wearing the veil I have a problem with, but little girls who are 5 - 12 years of age.

To a certain extent, most clothes are intended to remove lust from the eyes of men.
