  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is the thread to talk about the good Waylon Jennings songs!

Besides, how do you not like the guy that sung the theme from Dukes of Hazzard and sang with Hank Jr. and Willie Nelson.

I've got Waylon on right now!

Who is that guy in the avatar?

Not to mention bass player for Buddy Holly!

Some of my favorite Waylon tunes:

Sally Was A Good Ol' Girl
Amanda
Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?
Bob Wills Is Still The King

Waylon did indeed play for Buddy Holly. My mother's side of the family has a small cottage in Clear Lake, Iowa -- two blocks from the last place Buddy Holly ever performed (I forget the name of the place right now -- the Strand - or something like that) -- and if you go there today -- the owner can (and will) take you to the very room that Buddy and Waylon flipped the coin to see who got to ride on the plane, versus driving in the car.

Waylon *lost* the toss, and ended up in the car -- while Buddy *won* the toss, and ended up in the plane crash 1 1/2 miles away in a cornfield.

I got his 16 Biggest Hits disc a few days ago-I absolutely love it! I would have to say that Waylon Jennings blows Johnny Cash out of the water! I really like the following songs:

Amanda
Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?
---this song really shows how strong his voice was
Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)
Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys
Just to Satisfy You

Just who is Amanda though? Was she a real person? Who wrote the song?

+1 for Luchenbach, TX

I saw Waylon's son, Shooter and his band Shooter Jennings and the 357s a few months back. They opened for Robert Earl Keen. They weren't too bad but not as country as Waylon was. More along the lines of .38 Special or Lynrd Synrd (sp?).

Yep, they are more along the lines of alternative country or southern rock.

It's a toss up. :)

Does anyone else like 'Rose in Paradise'?
