  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Their condescending tone tells us unwashed to shup up and pay our taxes. See, we don't "truly understand the problem"..

But the elephant in the room they don't want to talk about is all the money given away to those that couldn't afford it, and those that couldn't afford it accepting it...and we're supposed to help them continue to live in their current lifestyle.

My job got eliminated Friday~I was transferred to another and paycut of $2 an hour and no overtime; did the figuring and told my wife she was going to have get by with $300 less a month in her household budget. Went through the budget and got rid of nonessentials and we'll be ok. Those of us that understand responsibility just deal with it~others, well, "where's my rescue"~~oh, that'd be me huh?

Exactly - and Obama was raising heck with Paulson, demanding that he make provisions for these homeowners who's rates will change within the next 6 mos. to make sure they can all stay in the homes they recently bought --
that's lovely, what of the normal folk who have to move becuz they cant' make ends meet anymore & have NO bailouts???

This is so infuriating to me I can hardly stand it.
The best thing I can do is pretend to be an ostrich again and stick my head in the sand so I don't get health problems later in life from anger & stress.

One day I WISH these politicians would be forced to live in real suburban homes on a tight budget & try to eek out a living like the rest of the planet & see if they don't wake up & get in touch with reality.

I just LOVE hearing bidon & obama "WE GET IT"... do they really get it??
no. it's a joke.

I'm voting McCain no matter what - but it doesnt' mean I have any trust & hope in this corrupt, out of touch Govt. with their love of PORK at our expense

I'd like to know what us smart people who got a conventional mortgage are supposed to do when our payments go up from the extra taxes? Who's gonna bail us out? Why can the Government not see that Real Estate is not the real economic problem but gas prices are?

Anyway, that is my rant. My 1/2 cent worth.

A good rant --

I'd only note that rising gas prices really have nothing to do w/ Pres. Bush - (not that you said he did)... it's up everywhere. Thankfully it's gone down some.

If the democrats would stop blocking efforts to drill and gain our own energy resources, maybe this wouldn't be such a serious problem by now??

As it is, every hot summer season we have rolling brownouts in cities across the country... they should have been dealing with this YEARS ago; at some point, you can't pass the buck one more year - it has to hit the fan at some time and we're close to being there right now in this country.

LUV that gridlock

I was watching an old episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition last night and they did something that was really a good idea. They installed windmills and solar panels and any extra electricity the family was not using went back to the grid for other families to use. This family basically ended up with no utility bills and provided power for their neighbors as well. If the Government would invest into these types of alternative energy sources, we could lower pollution, lower energy costs, and help the environment all at the same time.

Why are the Democrats so dead set against POSITIVE change? Why do they always want to raise taxes first and ask questions later? I am extremely fearful for this country if Obama wins the election. This bailout thing was also a bad idea in my opinion. How is it really going to help the average American to increase their cost of living to keep a few large banks from going under? Seriously? I don't see the reasoning, then again I am no economist either.

I've never understood why -

Worse, they keep raising the taxes, but never undo any of the pork spending on bad programs or useless committees or cut the waste.

If they ran any business in the real world, they'de bankrupt it with their lack of business skills & poor management...
but becuz it's taxpayers that give them mandatory income, they continue with their stupidity and greed.

No wonder people are fed up.

I'll add this,
I sure wouldn't want to be any of these politicans when it comes time for judgment from God.
They might get away with their greed and corruption and abuse of our funds... but nobody gets away with it in God's courts.

I'll second both of those posts! What we really need is tax reform and government reform. Most of the other issues are secondary. If the government would learn how to manage money, many of the other problems would go away or fix themselves.

I think they know how, they just don't do it.

It's common sense to cut waste (trim fat) to budget money when in a deficit and when trying to pay for new things (ie. 2 wars)...
instead of searching what to cut to spend in other necessary programs, they continue hemmoraging the $$, AND try to tax you more to pay for all of it.

Here's how I see it, it's alot easier for them to get something started than to STOP IT later. Why they don't go back & trim fat is beyond me.
Every household has to do it at some points - and most all businesses.

The Democrats are all about growing government - ostensibly to help the "little guy", but more often than not, they wind up hurting the little guy. They expect us to think that if the "rich" are getting soaked with taxes, that somehow it translates into us feeling better. I don't enjoy seeing my neighbor being punished for his good fortune.

Now the pot is only so big, and the Democrats want to dip deep, and the only way to do it is to soak the middle class LESS than the "rich". So, while the "rich" hide their money in tax shelters and municipal bonds, the rest of us are paying our "fair share". The rich already pay a huge part of the tax balance, but as a percentage, we in the middle class get the shaft over and over again.
