While there are sufficient historical references in 2 Kings 25, Daniel 5, and 2 Chron 36 that Nebuchadnezzar carried off temple treasures, which Ezra 1:9-11 listed but no mention of the Ark of the Covenant. Maccabees 2:4-8 Jeremiah found a cave where he placed the incense altar, ark of the covenant and blocked up the entrance. His companions went to mak out the way but were unable and when Jeremiah found out he said "The place shall remain unknown until God finally gathers his people together and shows mercy to them. Then the Lord will bring these things to light again, and the glory of the Lord will appear with the cloud, as it was seen both in the times of Moses, and when Solomon prayed ."
One tradition is that the Ark of the Covenant is in the sanctuary of the Dome of the Rock as inside there is a natural cave beneath the surface of the sacred rock and that place according to Jewish tradition, is the place called Mount Moriah, where Abraham offered Isaac.
UPI release from the Durham, North Carolina, bureau August of 1981 stated a team of researchers from Duke University and the University of Florida were said Saturday to have found the first known Ark of the Covenant from ancient Palestine....then later stated it was a part of a ark but not The Ark.
Then there is the Ethiopian tradition that the Ark of the Covenant is no longer in Israel but hidden under the ancient church of St. Mary of Zion in Aksum not far from the tomb of Solomn. This legend comes from Kebra Nagast.
"And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament; and there were lightninngs, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail." Rev 11:3 We see that God will show the real Ark of His Testament, which the one hidden on earth has been patterned. My question is, will we find the one here on earth?
