People claim a young earth is "plain reading" and ignore
the "plain reading" of an ancient earth actually found in scripture.

How old is old? How old is ancient?

This is an interesting thread.
My take on your question is that before the Fall we perhaps lived kind of simultaneously on a physical earth, but could also move freely in the spiritual realm (or at least a part of it...the Garden). But since we fell, we are no longer able to do so...not of our own accord anyhow.
I am not saying this is right, of course. What do you think about that possibility?

Oh, help LOL. I can't think about it at the moment...I am surrounded at the moment by VERY noisy family members and almost have a headache! But, as a slight aside but perhaps related ,take the account of the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. On face value, they are real physical trees...except that I'm not convinced they are. I think some Scripture at least, is written simply, so that it is 'functional' on a basic level to give people a basic understanding ( a bit like when a two or three year old asks where babies come from, you explain it in very, very simple terms...only as they grow older and can understand more technical terms and intricacies does one normally gradually go into greater detail). I think the whole account in Genesis scratches just the surface of spiritual (and physical) reality, but put in terms that are understandable to us - but doesn't give a full-blown account of the whole of what's behind it. Sorry if this isn't making much sense, but my brain is not functioning at optimum level just now, due to the aforementioned reason.

1. a huge local flood that covered Noah's whole world
2. plate tectonics

May I suggest that you take the time to search the answersingenesis web site for articles about the flood, Noahs ark and the garden of eden.

The site is commited to accepting the authority of scripture and just reading articles there does not turn you into a yec.,

A local flood would only need a local answer. God destroyed Sodom and told Lot to run to the hills. The same solution could have been give to Noah.

If it was a local flood why involve plate tectonics?
They are only needed to account for the dispersal of a Global floods water.

In Answers in Genesis and the Ark experience there are great resources on the bible, articles about Christianity as well as a strong case for a young earth and a 6 day creation.

The following words do not speak of a local flood, but of a worldwide flood;

And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. Genesis 6:17

The reason we see the rainbow all over the world and not just in one locale is because the promise that YHWH will not destroy the entire earth with a flood again was made to every living creature on earth (Genesis 9:16).

A local flood doesn't involve plate tectonics, unless sedimentary rocks are formed over time that are then built up into mountain ranges.

Part of the problem is that creation scientists argue that there is evidence for a worldwide global flood, and then use evidence that really doesn't prove a global flood, but is, rather, evidence for Plate Tectonics and the normative geology of an old earth.

That video showed a time when the earth was smaller and had no oceans, but it did have dinosaurs. Please explain how the dinosaurs preceded aquatic life based on the Genesis account where aquatic life was created on day 5 and land animals on day 6.

The video also mentioned this occurring about 65 million years ago. I thought you were contending for a young earth.
