  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Repeat the same words often.
Let's say you used the word "angry" two paragraphs ago and need to use it again? No problem! Don't bother with using a synonym--they only serve to confuse the reader.
Or, you put in the word "perspicacious" in chapter one, and want to use it again in chapter four--go right ahead. The reader won't remember that you used it, and to them it will seem like a breath of fresh air.

But if you do choose to use a synonym, for whatever reason--stylistic, perhaps--make sure you search the biggest, fattest thesaurus out there to find the most random, obscure synonym for the word that you can. (Kudos if you've never even heard the word before then.)

Introducing minor characters only to kill them a few pages later is a okay! After all, if you can't think of how to develop a minor character, just give them a dramatic death so you can give a push of drive to your main character's resolve to save the world, the princess, etc.

Plot twists are always good! Sudden, lame, exciting, boring, utterly predictible... If you can think of it, put it in there. Try to make them all work out for a happily ever after at the end but if you forget a few, that's fine; it will make people want a sequel or three.

Also, use lots of exclamation points! They add excitement to every sentence!

Like, totally! ^_^

For character diversity, be sure to introduce a ton of characters in the first chapter--or, better yet, within the first page--and come back to them at random times throughout the book (regardless of what's going on with the main characters at that time). And don't bother reintroducing them--the reader will remember each and every one perfectly.

The villian cannot just die once! Make him die several times throughout the novel and make him keep on coming back! Or better yet, bring him back in the second novel. Somehow, he must have survived getting buried in the rubble of his fortress!:p

Watch romantic situations closely. If it's love at first sight, the relationship is doomed; they are not both surviving until the end of the book/series. If, however, they hate each other for the first book and a half and then suddenly fall passionately in love, it's all good. Nothing can stop them.
