Hi,

What are your opinions on this passage, specifically the "Do not write it down" part.
Probably a stupid question, but what do you think was in the scroll and why not write it down?
Revelation 10

The Angel and the Little Scroll

1Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. 2He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. 4And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, "Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down."

Ihope:

Well, until someone comes along with more info, I can give you just my opinion. Really, just an opinion, haven't pondered or studyed this one, just assuming here, ya understand.

But it seems as in Revelation and other prophesies when if refers to the end, that power would be given to one from the "evil one" and so I assume the writings contain all the false promises, false miracles, and all the other lies, deceits, and despicable acts used to pursade, trick, con, and deceive followers in the last days. As further down in the passages the Angel tells John because the influence goes to "many peoples, nations, tongues, and Kings", So in essence all the writings in the little book seem real sweet, but when they fall for them then they realize who they've followed and the inevitable consequences of their actions it becomes bitter. Seems like this was a glimse given John to realize how important it was to continue his prophesy. Again, just my opinion.

God bless,

I don't think anyone can answer your question definitely.

It could be that the information contained in the scroll could have changed the course of history if it became known to mankind. It could have interfered with Gods eternal plan. Hiding the contents of the scroll from the enemies of God may have been the reason for sealing it up.

But this is just speculation on my part.

I think this is what happened:

The angel in that day was talking about things like planes and skyscrapers and TV and computers and types of weapons people use on one another today (or in that day). Or diseases and cures that we don't know about yet. (Or hovercrafts and spaceships!... or our current visitors from another world that haven't arrived yet!!) Or things that I can't write because I cannot imagine them.

It would make NO sense to someone in 112 AD. (or even today)

So the angel was like "Dude, just forget about it, don't even bother writing that down."

Ex. "You can cure cancer but you cannot cure sin." or "Your sin is like cancer."

Someone reading it would be like "why is he talking about a constellation?? Our sin is like the stars??"

And then we would call cancer something else... and the WHOLE WORLD WOULD BE SCREWED UP BECAUSE JOHN WROTE DOWN WHAT HE SAID!!! AHHH

:D

So I think it was better that he just didn't bother...

As written in previous correspondence...

A thought to ponder. Other scriptures tell us that God's Children are sealed in the book of life.

Could this be the book of life? :)

God Bless.

The Apostle John was told not to write down what he heard, clearly, because God did not want all of us here and now to know just what was said as that utterance would have then become manifest biblical revelation. Still, the very fact the He did allow John to hear what was said proves that God is willing for saints to know some things in heaven which He does not allow them to know upon Earth. If the Apostle John were in heaven at the time, and it seems that he was, this explanation then is consistent. In other words, when you arrive safely in heaven, you may satifyingly look forward to knowing much then which you cannot possible know here and now. I am glad the Lord has so ordered this as my current brain is running on only 6 volts D.C. and couldn't handle fifty times that voltage. When we all get to heaven, provided we do, we will have expanded comprehensions appropriate for further revelation. I suppose that John was allowed to know this utterance because the Lord knew that he in particular wouldn't abuse his advantage of information. We can wait.

Hello  and a belated welcome to CF. I personally find Revelation quite a difficult book to interpret due to it's visionary nature. I feel I would agree with what Utah Knight has previously posted:

it may have made no sense to anyone at the time either that of God did not feel we were ready to know that
