  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The 6 Numbers that reflect how fine-tuned the Universe is

Martin Rees shows the 6 numbers in his book Just Six Numbers:

nu (a ratio of the strength of electrical forces that hold atoms together compared to the force of gravity which is 10 to the 37th power). Were it a few zeros shorter, only a short-lived miniature universe could exist and there would be no time for biological evolution.

epsilon (how firmly the atomic nuclei bind together which is 0.004). If it were 0.006 or 0.008 we could not exist.

omega (amount of material in the universe). If this ratio were too high the universe would have collapsed long ago: if too low, galaxies or stars would not have formed.

lambda (force of cosmic "antigravity" discovered in 1998, which is a very small number)

Q (ratio of two fundamental energies, which is 1/100,000). If much larger the universe would be so violent that no stars or sun systems could survive.

delta (number of spatial dimensions in our universe). Life could not exist if this was 2 or 4.

Hello. With all due respect (and I mean that), I just cannot understand how you can refute all the evidence--fossil, anatomical, DNA--that seems to verify evolution. I do believe God used evolution as his tool. I cannot explain away all the facts that support it. Even cosmic background radiation, which was predicted by independent groups of scientists, then found by accident by Penzias and Wilson, surely points to an expanding univers, which seems to me fits evolutionary theory. (Penzias and Wilson found this microwave radiation--a perfect black body, not capable of replication in a labratory--at minus 450 degrees, just a predicted. And they won the Nobel Prize for discovery of 'the echo of creation'. I truly believe Christianity is being damaged severely by our denial of evolution as a tool of God.
Thank you,
Dick Zerger

The practice of natural selection is that mutations are sprinkled around and those that are unfit die due to being misfit with the environment and a lucky few get to dominate.

If you can show ONE passage from Christ that supports the idea that the fit will survive and the misfits shall die please offer it. Adaptation is simply a process allowed by God, but designed for a failing environment.

Creationists can't selectively sing the praises of astrophysics, because that argument only works if the big bang theory is true.

The Universe is commonly defined as the totality of existence, including planets, stars, galaxies, the contents of intergalactic space, and all matter and energy. Definitions and usage vary and similar terms include the cosmos, the world and nature.

Scientific observation of the Universe, which is believed to be at least 93 billion light years in diameter, has led to inferences of its earlier stages. These observations suggest that the Universe has been governed by the same physical laws and constants throughout most of its extent and history. The Big Bang theory is the prevailing cosmological model that describes the early development of the Universe, which in physical cosmology is believed to have occurred about 13.77 billion years ago.

There are various multiverse hypotheses, in which physicists have suggested that the Universe might be one among many universes that likewise exist. The farthest distance that it is theoretically possible for humans to see is described as the observable Universe. Observations have shown that the Universe appears to be expanding at an accelerating rate, and a number of models have arisen to predict its ultimate fate.

Actually the theory goes that an infinite number of universes are produced constantly to accommodate every possible variation or possibility. And that we are perceiving just one of those possibilities at any given moment.

I notice that no one has offered anything to refute the OP. Pretty comical the way they are presented as if they were somehow arguments against it

Since this is a Christian forum, there is no reason why anybody would want to refute it. Nevertheless, it reains a fact that the physics being quoted presupposes a universe which is about 13.7 billion years old.

Theistic evolutionists or old earth creationists might be able to use that argument, but YECs can't.
