Brothers and Sisters,

Greetings!
First, I consider myself a fundamentalist Christian. I have been in and out of church all my life; believing, unbelieving, believing again.....until not too long ago when I was born again!:amen:
I am hoping that someone here can provide me with specific scripture that supports the five points of Calvinism. I know what the five points are; just not knowing where to find their support in scripture.

Thanks for your time,
A brother in Christ

The five points come from an entire system of doctrine which is based upon the whole of Scripture, i.e. the whole counsel of God. The whole Bible is our "proof text" in this sense. I'll take your word for it that you know what the points are. But I must ask whether or not you're aware of the historical context in which the five points came about. Are you familiar with the Synod of Dordt?

Since Presbyterian and Reformed churches are confessional churches, the best place for you to start in examining the biblical support for what we believe would be the historic Reformed confessions. Here's a link to the Westminster Confession of Faith: Westminster Confession of Faith

That page has clickable links that will show you the Scripture proofs for each point of doctrine. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

In Christ,
Lane

WOW, that's a lot of homework, brother!:)
I better get started!

I have read some on John Calvin, but have not studied all his works. I suppose if the Catholics don't like him- he must be "OK".:D
Never heard of Synod of Dordt, tho.

Thanks brother.

It's important to note that the five points were formulated in response to five points of Arminian doctrine that were raised in dispute to some of Calvin's teachings. By this time, Arminius and Calvin were both dead and gone so this ecumenical Synod was called to settle the dispute between their followers.

Here is a link to " The Five Points of Calvinism Defined, Defended" by Steele and Thomas. It does a great job of giving both the history of the five points and how they came about as well as defending them Scripturally with texts. I don't know if the whole book is on the link but it does seem to have quite a bit. It isn't a long book and the chapters are fairly short and easy to read.
