Hello SDAs, I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Daniel John (no kidding), and I was raised in the Roman Catholic Church. Through my own independent studies of scripture, I have come to most of the same fundamental beliefs that SDA's have come to, except for one thing. I seem to be offset by 125 years. I'll explain that offset in a moment. I totally agree with SDA's on the interpretation of the 70 weeks of Daniel's people (Dan. 9:24-27). I have no doubt that it began with the command to Ezra in 457 BC and ended with the martyrdom of Stephen in 34 AD, the event that caused the focus of the gospel to go from the Jews to the Gentiles.
The 70th week would've then been 27-34 AD, and the 69 weeks would've been fulfilled when the Messiah said "the time is fulfilled" (Mark 1:15). It's still possible, I think, that the antichrist could take advantage of the erroneous interpretation of the 70th week, which is popular today. If the Jews do in fact build a temple to start doing animal sacrifices, then what a great opportunity it would be for the one who will be "like a lamb" (Rev. 13:11) to barge into the temple right before a lamb is to be sacrificed and say, "stop this abomination - this is not the lamb that takes away sins - I am." It's one way he could announce his claim to divinity.
Now let me explain the 125 year offset. 332 BC was the year Alexander the Great annexed Jerusalem, and 1969 AD is 2300 years later. I believe, as SDA's do, that the "little horn" (Dan. 7:8, 8:9) is the Vatican. Since 1969 is the year that the "little horn" (the pope) actually took away the "daily sacrifice" (the mass), I think 1969, rather than 1844, is the time we entered into the investigative judgment. Notice that the transgressions of adultery and murder increased around the year 1969, but the transgression of breaking the Sabbath increased many centuries before 1844. Perhaps, Ellen White was 125 years ahead of her time.
When I say that the mass was taken away, I'm not referring to the bread & wine being taken away. I'm referring to the words of consecration that the priest speaks over the bread & wine. The words he speaks over the wine has always been the covenant that the Messiah betrothed His people to Himself with (Dan. 9:27, Mat. 26:28). But, when the pope translated the mass from Latin to vernacular in 1969, he took the words of Messiah's covenant away and replaced them with the words of a fake covenant of universalism. It has deceived a billion people for over 40 years! All the pope had to do, to pull of this great deception, was to replace the word "many" (Dan. 9:27, Mat. 26:28) with the word "all."
I see no indication that the pope actually planned it. I think it's a strong delusion that's being sent by God (not spoken, but sent). I believe that the reason why the mass was taken away was because of the historic moral transgression that started taking place around 1969 (adultery by divorce & remarriage and murder by abortion). If anyone has voted for a "pro-choice" candidate for civil office or has blessed someone's remarriage after a divorce, then you might want to reconsider those decisions and repent.
I believe that in Daniel chapter 8, verse 8 to verse 9 represents a 2300 year jump in time and verse 22 to verse 23 represents the same 2300 year jump in time. But I believe the "king of fierce countenance" (Dan. 8:23) is not the "little horn" (Dan. 8:9), but a secular ruler. I believe the "little horn" (pope) is the beast of the sea (Rev 13:1), because the little horn has "a mouth speaking great things" (Dan. 7:8, Rev. 13:5). I believe the "king of fierce countenance" will be the beast of the land (Rev. 13:11).
My intention in posting this is not to argue, but to throw this out there to see if any SDAs see anything that is obviously flawed with what I believe to be true. If so, then please let me know, because the 2300 prophecy is something I talk about when I teach the gospel to those who are lacking in faith. Fortunately, our salvation does not depend upon coming up with the correct interpretation of prophecy. But a good thing about interpretation of prophecy is that it can increase a humble persons FAITH to the point where they can be SAVED (from their sins and the penalty of sin Mat. 1:21, Rom 6:23) by GRACE (which God only gives to the humble Jam 4:6, 1Pe 5:5) through FAITH (Eph 2:8).
May God bless all of you,
Daniel John
