  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

David, which Muslim nations are actively participiating in the impending war with Iraq? (Hint participating means actual preparation for invading Iraq not allowing Us troops to it from their land)?
The Kurds getting freer? Yeah except that Turkey goes over the borders as many times as tey feel like it.
How do you know,t hat the people will be more free? The highest probability would be instead of a secular dictatorship a religious dictatorship. They would gain some freedoms but lose others.

Either way I think the United States has to make a move one way or the other soon. We can stand down or we can give Sadam the boot, take our punches and then spend a few hundred billion making Iraq a better place. Personaly I'd prefer to see the few hundred billion spent here, but that's just me. What really bothers me is the thought that this might all just drag on indefinately with nothing really changing, meanwhile were spending money hand over fist while our economy goes from bad to worse.

The Kurds aren't getting anything but the shaft. Of course, it might have been a good idea for the White House to make sure it had the votes, before selling the Kurds out.

If we get the Turkey bases, life will be very fun in Northern Iraq when the war starts.

The Kurds have promsied to turn their weapons on the Turkish soldiers, and I can't see Iran staying out of it.

Leave's out generals with something of a problem. Invasion without the Turkish bases is considerably problematic (we wouldn't still be hanging out there, hoping, if not using Turkey was viable. Airlift, of course, is out of the question). But, to get access to these bases we really need, we have to front 30 billion, and sell out the Kurds.

So our generals have to either fight without the northern bases (which sucks), or (assuming Turkey can pass it) fight with them, but have to worry about the Kurds and Turks fighting, with Iran stepping in to help out.

It's hard to keep your supply lines open with a three-way fight going on right on top of them.
