That Robe

O God of Grace

THou hast imputed my sin to my substitute
and hast imputed His righteousness to my soul,
clothing me with a bridegroom's robe
decking me with jewels of holiness...

I have no robe to bring to cover my sin,
no loom to weave my own righteousness,
I am always standing clothed in filthy garments,
and by your grace am always receiving
change of rainment......

I am always going into the far country,
and always returning home as a prodigal,
always saying, Father, forgive me,
and Thou art always bringing forth
the best robe....

Every morning let me wear it
every evening return in it,
go out to the days work in it,
be married in it,
be wound in death in it,
stand before the great white throne in it,
enter heaven in it shining as the sun... A PURITAN PRAYER


Behold him there, the risen lamb!
My perfect spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM,
The King of Glory and of Grace!
One with Himself I cannot die,
My soul is purchased by His blood;
My life is his with Christ on high,
With Christ my Saviour and my God

Look upon your past sins, look upon your present infirmities and all your future errors, and while you weep tears of repentance, let no fear of damnation blanch your cheek. You stand today robed in your Saviour's garments........Christ's righteousness is compared to fair white linen, to wrought gold, to the best robe - better than the angels have. I, poor prodigal, once clothed in rage, companion to the nobility of the sty, fresh from the husks that swine do eat, am nevertheless clothed in the best robe and am so accepted in the beloved. [Citizen of the Kingdom]

THE ROBE- without which no one can enter the wedding. The headdress of His salvatory work always on our minds. The cloak of His righteousness and not our own. The belt of His truth as recorded in the bible, with the shoes of God's gospel about His Son Jesus Christ keeping us firmly grounded.
