It sounds like you worship a very inept god av1611vet, or perhaps by believing as you do you have made your god inept. The Ark could have been made out of balsa wood and still accomplished its mission, if God so ordained.
... that story is the result of a person who knows nothing about boats...
This has been posted elsewhere, but I thought it deserved some discussion here on these forums.
Seconded. It's been discussed a number of times here previously, and unless you're the author, you need to go back and include a source link and cut it down to a fair use amount.
While interesting, as is the discussion of the Chinese treasure fleets, I would put it on par with Woodmorappe's Feasibility book. When there's no evidence of the hyper-speciation that would have to result after the "kinds" were brought on the Ark. When there's no evidence of genetic bottlenecks 4,000 years ago that would have to result from populations being reduced to 2, 7 or 8. When all of the geological, archaeological and paleontological evidence screams the Flood didn't happen, I think discussions about the dimensions of the Ark are basically nit picking.
As I said elsewhere, the bible was meant to be read out from the pulpit or the stage, it was never meant to be analysed in depth and certainly not for asking questions about, can you imagine people stopping the reader every time they didn't understand something? 'hang on that last part doesn't make sense', if they did that they would still be reading Genesis 1.
Reading for the masses is rather recent, it was not always as it is today.I ask that question all the time, that's why I read it myself, as do most believers.
Truth be told it's the truth.
You mean the indiginous peoples mythology? the modern US has only religious mythology.
What did people hundreds of years ago do? they spent most of their time thinking about food and working out ways to get it or preserve it, they worked very very hard and got very little in return, telling stories and dreaming were the only ways to get away from the drudgery of day to day living, stories were handed down and were embellished with every telling.
How many kinds of truth are there? don't forget the truth for the people then included magic and wizardry.
Unless you're very selective of the myths you believe (I assume you only believe the Christian myths) you could end up believing thousands from every country in the world.
So you want them to be true in order to give your life a richness it would not normally have had and to stop you being shallow, how about them being true or not? or is that not important?
Then again just because we believe something is true does not make it true, does it?
This is a really embarrassing forum, do these people really believe in these ridiculous tales?
My expected response to this is that the shipbuilders at Percy & Small were not woking under the guidance of God, while Noah had that great font of knowledge to guide him in his engineering feat.
Nah, that's a misunderstand. What happened was Noah said to his sons, "We need to build us a big ol boat" You'all gofer wood.Gopher wood. The secret was in the properties of gopher wood.

Some do, some don't.
Meanwhile, a far more interesting question is why you hang around a forum which makes you feel embarrassed. I wouldn't, myself. What exactly do you get out of it?
Could it be that nice warm feeling of superiority, as you survey all the shallow people from your pedestal? Surely not!
Or, more likely, something to the human psyche that needs to have faith in something. That something comes in the form of three major word religions, and literally millions of sects and denominations therein.Once again, Ding Dong has pointed out the obvious, that Christians believe in things that they can't see nor can they prove with science. It seems rather confusing to Ding Dong and others why Christianity hasn't folded up and closed shop in light of these very simple yet powerful observations they have made and relayed to us. Apparently there's something more to this Faith.

Or maybe you fail to grasp the significance of needing to believe in something, no matter how ridiculous those beliefs may be. As humans, we tend to fool ourselves and believe that which we want to. Evolutionary psychologists have done much reaserch suggesting how this came to be.You are reiterating the fundamental point of Ding Dong with this statement. I will reiterate as well, that unless we (and I'll include all religions in this statement) are fools, liars, or too stubborn to see the simple truth that what we believe in is completely intangible, and this should be enough to discard our beliefs, there must be something more to spirituality than you are stretching your primate mind to grasp.
