Yes, it is very early, I know most of us don't even think about thanksgiving until next month... some of us with a stress-pinched voice saying "aw, the holidays are here already!" But I've been talking with God about it a lot lately and I've realized what a difference it makes in our relationship and my perspective when I spend a little time each day to put aside all my whining and complaining and make a list (mental or written) of gifts He's given me. They can be general things that He's given to everyone else on this planet or specific things that happened only to me or that only I saw. Anyway, I thought it'd be neat if we all shared lists like that in posts here...maybe it's just one thing each day, but it'd be a tragedy if, of the millions of things we're blessed with, we didn't recognize the Giver and boast amongst ourselves of the wonders He has given each of us. I'm sure a post like this has been done here before and lost in the masses. It's far too easy to look at what's going WRONG every day, so I'm going to start a brief list of random things I'm thankful for at the moment. Please add to it, whether it's the same things over and over, or totally different things from your home and neighborhood.
References for thanksgiving are numerous in the King James Version.
A couple of my favourites are:
[BIBLE]
PS 26:7 That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.
PS 50:14 Offer unto God thanksgiving and pay thy vows unto the Most High.
PHILIPPIANS 4:6 Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
[/BIBLE] (I added emphasis because everything is such a strong word)
faraway friends
pets
friendly waiters
telephones (our phone lines were out yesterday because of a storm)
comfy shoes
big smiles
compliments
hospitals
stuffed animals
candlelight
moments alone
time at work
laughing children
family
a warm bed
a good book
excitement with the sunrise
anticipation of snow
hot cocoa
big scarves
snow angels
evergreen trees
Christmas
ornaments and ribbon
white Christmas lights
Christ's birth and life and death
the ability to repent
strength to get through each day
millions of wonderful days
sweet memories
the comfort of growth and shaping in the midst of struggles, trials
accidental assurances from others that you're okay, you're on the right track
enjoyable acquaintances, friendly exchanges with strangers
the image of You smiling at me
reminders that You're watching everything I do, sins & attempts at obedience alike
