What's the point in destroying her life once the root cause of any social problems she may have has been treated? What purpose does a lengthy prison sentence serve, other than to satisfy a human desire for retribution? I suggest there could be more constructive things done with such a person .

JUSTICE! And yes, justice is an end in and of itself. It is not just for her to escape justice after having murdered another human being.
And if she does, no one could be blamed for killing her, because society has then thrown one of the most basic parts of the social contract out the window.

How can a supposed educated person still make logical fallacies and baseless claims?
CP is justified in the cases where there IS no doubt (and yes, those cases exist)
Yes if you can provide "virtually beyond a shadow of a doubt" then the death penalty should be used. It shouldn't be used as often as it has been.

Problem is that juries are already supposed to be convinced beyond shadow of a doubt. But for all sorts of reasons, mistakes are made. Remember, in a 99% accurate legal system, that's still an innocent person executed in every hundred. Maybe not that bad seeming as an abstract model, imagine a loved one being that one person, or yourself. IMHO there are very few things more horrifying than the thought of executing an innocent person.

Thread reopened and cleaned due to flaming and off topic posts so if your post is gone that is the reason or you quoted a rule vio. Don't make things personal folks. Keep it civil and if you disagree with someone address their post not them personally.

Capital punishment is such a heart wrenching topic.
Anytime an innocent persons life is taken its just horrific.
At least when we imprison someone, they have a chance to change and possibly make a contribution to society.
