Hendrix blocked one provision, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, from being enforced against the state after finding the bill was wrongly passed. That law requires employers to provide pregnant workers with reasonable accommodations.
Paxton spent all that money and effort to cause further struggle for pregnant Texan women.

I don't understand how someone with this ethos keeps his job.

He blocked a bill that would have allowed it.
The bill does not allow a pregnant woman to ask for accommodations. A pregnant woman can ask for anything she wants. Are we to imagine that some pregnant woman asks for an accommodation and her employer says, "Heavens no! That's illegal!"

There is no requirement.

And yes I absolutely do think there are 1000% managers that would not make accommodations for a pregnant woman.

According to the article, the decision only affects Texas state employees. Private employers still have to abide by the new law.

What is stopping pregnant women from asking for accommodations at work?
Nothing was stopping them from asking, but the pervious law only required employers to accommodate those requests if they make the same accommodations for other employees with other medical conditions.

Supporters of the Tuesday's bill have said that can be nearly impossible to demonstrate, since many pregnant workers cannot identify similarly situated disabled workers and do not necessarily know what kind of accommodations their employers have provided in the past.

My understanding of the new rule is that it removes that relationship to other medical conditions and requires employers to make accommodations for pregnancy, period.
