  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here we go...

About 8 years ago, I was very aware of something missing in my life but I couldn't put my finger on it. I just came to accept that, because I was single at the time, I needed to meet a nice girl and "settle down"; that would solve all my problems, right?

Well anyway, I was sitting at the computer one night after been out drinking (which I did a lot of at that time) at the Yahoo personals page. I saw an ad from a gal that stated she lived in a town 10 miles east of here and was looking for someone who was willing to submit their lives to Christ. I believe Jesus spoke to my hear that night and I answered her ad because I wanted to submit my life to Him, not so much that I wanted to meet her (but that would have been nice, too!). I didn't know it at the time, but I believe I was saved (set apart, anyway) when I answered that ad.

I didn't talk to that gal very much; she actually lived in Seattle, WA but was planning on moving to this town nearby. Something was a little different in my life, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. I became more aware of things, like my drinking and how harmful it was becoming and how I behaved in general. I was beginning to see myself for who I really was, a wretched sinner.

I eventually set up a "blind date" with this gal when she moved to my area; we hadn't spoken much on the computer (we both thought is was kind of cheesy, I suppose). I started dating this beautiful, smart woman and she swept me off of my feet. She also was a child of God and she began to introduce me to the gospel and bible studies. I ended up marrying this woman and we have 2 beautiful children together. I continue to grow in Christ. I eventually said the sinners prayer at some point and became baptized, but I believe Jesus snatched me from the pits of hell that night in front of the computer.

It's amazing to me how He meets us where we are at and answers the questions our hearts ask without us even knowing about it.

It reminds me when Jesus was speaking to Nicodemus. Nicodemus asked Jesus a question with his mind and Jesus answered the question that Nicodemus' heart was asking, not the question his mind asked.

In conclusion, I thought I needed to meet a nice girl to fulfill me, and Jesus told my heart that I needed Him to fulfill me. He later blessed me with a wife anyway! Praise God.

John 3:1-3
1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."
3In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

Nicodemus thought he had it all figured out but something was missing. Nicodemus was going to figure it out intellectually by asking Jesus an intellectual question. He wasn't expecting Jesus' answer, was he?

I love it. God is awesome.
