I have not personally observed that. But I do believe it! I hope this is not too off subject, but I will give my testimony of tongues.
First, the Bible says there is a kind of tongues that no man understands, but that we speak to the Lord. If no one understands, it cannot be for a foreign language speaking person.
Not long after I became a Christian I met some people who talked about the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues. I was interested in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, but did not want tongues! Too weird for my taste.
I got a book called The Holy Spirit and You, There was a prayer in there to ask
the Lord to grant the gift of tongues. I read it out loud. Not because I wanted the gift of tongues, I don’t even know for sure why I read it out loud.
The moment I finished that prayer, my jaw dropped. Suddenly I was speaking in tongues! If I wanted to. If I wanted to stop it I easily could. I found I could even sing in tongues.
Within three days I noticed a new peace that I had not experienced before.
Again, the Bible says there is a kind of tongues that no man understands. That is why sometimes we need interpreters. You don’t need interpreters when the foreign language speaking person understands everything you say.
I almost never understand what I am praying or praising about in tongues. I generally don’t even bother to ask. To me this is a gift where you totally turn things over to the Father. Often after I say a prayer in English, I will ask to speak or sing in tongues for the Lord’s will to be done, whatever it may be.
1 Corinthians 14:2.
King James Bible
For he that speaketh in an
unknown tongue
speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth
him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
All languages on the earth are
known tongues. By some group somewhere.
