• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My wife Joan was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit seventeen years before me. Most people in the assembly thought she was a widow! I never wanted to get in Joan's way, I let her go to all the meetings, and let her convince me it was the truth. I was very wary of churches and it took me all those years to be convinced it was not the Jehovah's Witnesses.

I came to my first meeting on Sunday the twenty eighth of June 1992, it was my birthday. I was convinced then it wasn't the Jehovah's Witnesses as the readings came from the Bible, it was not their own words. It was good, so I got baptized that day. Three weeks later at the meeting I received the Holy Spirit, I felt lifted up and I was really sure it was the right thing to do and I was
happy with that.

I was a regular smoker for fifty years and had prayer to be healed of this and the next morning I would have normally smoked a cigarette to start the day but I just didn't think of it, and never wanted to smoke again.
Now I get up every morning refreshed, look after my garden and fruit trees and get to every meeting I can. I love the choruses, and have always had an excellent memory for all their numbers. I used to play the trumpet, harmonica and even the drums occasionally.
We have a wonderful life with the Lord together.

From a friend, Kevin:-
I used to smoke and drink heavily, I did not want to smoke but I was dependent on nicotine. I gave up every New Year’s Eve, birthday and often on Monday after a "hard" weekend. I tried Hypnotherapy and Acupuncture. All failed, I proved I didn’t have the will power to give up smoking. I looked at Eastern religion, self-defence, yoga, etc. searching for a purpose in life. I never considered that the Bible could contain any wisdom because of my experiences with mainline Christianity.

In 1982 I read from a friend's Bible and, while I read, I received the Holy Ghost. I tried to speak to my friend and I spoke in another language that I had not learned. I had little understanding of what had happened, as I had never heard of speaking in tongues before.
I began searching for a church that could answer my questions. I visited numerous churches but gave up and asked God to show me where I could find the answers.
A few days later I walked into a Revival Fellowship meeting and was shown Bible scriptures clearly proclaiming speaking in tongues and full immersion baptism as commandments from God. I was baptized
and I spoke again in the prayer language that God had given me. I realized then that the Lord had healed me of smoking six months earlier when first I spoke in tongues!

Obey God's simple wisdom which is to seek his power and focus on that.

The strength is God's all we can do is desire God to give it to us.
"you shall receive power, after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me" (Acts 1v8)

Ac:17:30: And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
:31: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
:32: And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.
